Even at lowly Vanderbilt that football money flows like an uncapped oil well. Fortunately fancy offices don't win basketball games. Of course, Shea may change that.

Cornelius Vanderbilt didn't raise no fools.............. hmmmm View AttachmentWe have tickets to a speaker series in Phoenix, although we only made one live (happened to be the first, it was Joe Biden when he was a retired vice-President and non-candidate a few years back). Speakers we missed include folks like Bill Nye, Jane Goodall, Madeline Albright, one of the astronauts, etc. This year remote - on TV via zoom, we have had Wynton Marsalis, Colin Powell, a National Geographic photographer, a European travel expert - and Anderson Cooper. The "guests" speak for about 45 minutes or so and answer pre-submitted audience questions asked by the host for another 45. What surprised me about Cooper was that he actually started his career doing real journalism in war zones. He was actually quite entertaining. He told stories about his mother - who was not exactly worldly. Of them all, this season, only Marsalis wasn't 100% great, because his presentation was way over my head (he is a professor and it showed), but the Q&A was quite good. The others were all interesting, even the Europe tour guy, even though I'm not planning on going. Hoping they continue to offer the programs by remote, but I'm not hopeful. Next week is Teresa May, the former British PM and the last one of the year is filmmaker Ken Burns. Sorry for prattling on, but I'll stick up for Anderson Cooper a bit - I don't watch his show at all.

Cooper certainly has his virtues, but he was a contestant on celebrity Jeopardy! and he was a complete embarrassment. He had no knowledge base, even of current events. Ironically, he's the next guest host of Jeopardy! for the next two weeks. I think you'll really, really enjoy Ken Burns Was the travel guy Rick Steves? He's surprisingly good...

I hate to admit I never heard of him, or several of the guests each year. 3rd season, 7 programs a season. Unfortunately my wife had her liver transplant shortly after that first program, and the season was ending by the time she felt better. By the next season, she was in her current long-standing depression and inability to do much of anything. So for her, it is great being available at home, and I admit I like it as well. But it is strictly due to Covid, probably this season only and only available to subscribers (although, because each theatre seat has a unique log-in, they are ok with giving one you don't use to someone else). Yes, looking forward to Ken Burns. They had a list of 100 or so possible folks for next year that we were asked to rate as to interest. Selected from a wide variety of areas. Will be interesting to see who they get. They also do a similar series in Salt Lake City, where they are based.

Rick Steves has a program on Public Broadcasting System, and it's quite enjoyable. He's extremely calm and thoughtful and respectful of the people and places he visits, and perhaps the two of you would enjoy that.

Wow, this thread drifted really far afield! Okay by me...our guidelines on that are pretty lax.
KBAZ - Sorry to hear about your wife's depression. I have suffered from depression for well over 25 years. Mine is fairly well managed with medication and counseling. But I remember before we found the right medication and dosage. It is a grueling disease. She will be in my prayers.
