Since we are not TOB, we can speculate on this. I think there is a possibility this could happen.
If so, we should hear soon.

Elite players don't come to UConn to play for Shea Ralph. They come for Auriemma.
Does Vanderbilt still have academic standards similar to Stanford?

That same speculation is on other boards, too. (IIRC, ND).
The obvious players are the ones toward the bottom of this year's depth chart: Paith, Mir, and even Aubrey (especially with Dorka's arrival). It would be a wonderful opportunity: good relations with the coach, lots of playing time, and a fine university.

Ahead of ND but behind Stanford. An excellent academic institution. Elite players that are on the current UConn roster might be happy to go play for Shea and get more playing time.

I would still be shocked if Aubrey Griffin stuck around. There are about 355 D1 programs and she's good enough to be a starter on 350 of them, yet as a junior at UConn she's looking at being 3rd or 4th off the bench. I would hate to lose her, personally I think she should have been starting this past year, but if she has aspirations of going pro then transferring is in her best interest. I can only think of one player with a meaningful pro career that wasn't a regular starter (Kiah Stokes). I was surprised she hasn't entered the portal already, but now I'm thinking maybe she was waiting for some news like this to come out. I'm curious what kind of relationship she has with Shea.

So when does this off season I've been hearing about start? Every day is a bombshell. At this rate the season will be here before we know it. You guys are right, this set's up perfectly for the back of roster players, if they have the grades to get in. Any of them could probably start for Vandy. The Stanford of the south (bite me Duke) would be a nice place to have a degree from too. By the way, totally off topic, does anyone know if Jasmine Lister still lives on Earth? It's like she's in Witness Protection. No, I am NOT talking about rehiring her, losing another assistant just reminded me of her.

Welcome!!! And great thoughts. I agree with most of what you write above, but not about her starting this year. Geno really wanted to give her a chance, but she just couldn't work within the complex offense. He expressed a lot of subtle frustration in his pressers.

In the Arizona FF game, prob the 4th quarter she went in and immediately got called for a charge under the AZ basket (a headlong rush right into 3 AZ players as I recall.) The camera went to Geno and he just turned away with a look of disappointment on his face.
She is very athletic and talented but she needs more of something: finesse, discipline, playing time?
I don't want to see her go.

Yeah, that was absolutely brutal. In my mind she was like an NFL running back lowering their shoulder and taking on a linebacker.
She is very athletic and talented but she needs more of something: finesse, discipline, playing time? I don't want to see her go. She has the quickest hands of any player I've seen. She's so active on defense and generates a lot of turnovers. But yes she commits her share too. I will throw this out there too, but she is actually the best screen setter I have seen on the team since Stef Dolson. It's one of those things that seems so elementary, "literally just stand there" but there is an art to getting to the right spot, positioning at the right angle, making yourself "wide" within the rules and she's good at it despite her smaller frame.

Good catch! I never noticed that one way or the other. I do see Aaliyah getting called for offensive fouls because she's overly aggressive with her screens.

WTF does that stupid chancellor mean: One of the nation's most storied programs....Shea does have to play that "formerly storied" program in Knoxville twice a season, so I suspect he was being tactful...

WTF does that stupid chancellor mean: One of the nation's most storied programs....He didn't want to offend the few Lady Vol Nation trolls who've been educated beyond a 2nd grade level! Both of them can raise a real ruckus when angered!!

Back to who may leave. Aubrey and Mir. Two very athletic kids who just don't get the basketball part. Next year to give either game time just sets someone else back. I know it is harsh, but it is reality.

I know it is harsh, but it is reality. I wouldn't be surprised to see either or both leave, or stay. I think they get basketball, it's UConn basketball that they haven't yet internalized. But they both are valuable just like they are as role players. Their roles? Get rebounds and run the floor. And for short stretches in a game they produce a lot of numbers (and most of them aren't to's). I can almost guarantee that within her first minute on the floor Griffin will have a)rebound, b)steal, c)basket). Often 2 of those. Griffin could become the Stokes of the 21/22 team. McClean is a slightly smaller version of Griffin. If I was a coach and the opponents had the last shot in a game to win with 10 seconds left I would have those 2 on the court to make sure the opponent only got ONE shot at most instead of losing on a putback. Both of these two could make themselves indispensable if they could hit 35% of their spot up 3's and add a midrange shot. They are already two of the 3 best rebounders on the team.
