www.boston.com/sports/local-news/2021/04/02/caroline-ducharme-uconn-milton“I think you find out who you are as a player when it’s taken away from you, and I think you find out how much you really love the game and how much you’re really willing to work for it and how much pain you’re willing to go through,” Ducharme said. “Rehab and the mental side of it, how much you’re really willing to do to get back on the court. And for me, I was willing to do anything to get back on the court.” "Like many elite basketball prospects, Ducharme learned to be a guard first, then hit her growth spurt. The results of her guard training are obvious in her game. While she’s taller than most of her opponents, Ducharme makes footwork look effortless. She creates space and squares up from far behind the 3-point line, both off the dribble and off the catch. Around the rim, she is unbothered by contests and can finish with either hand. As ESPN’s scouting report put it in 2020, she has a “scorer’s mentality.” Want to see a deep three? About 55 seconds in to this: Azzi is getting a lot of attention as well she should, but Caroline may offer a broader skill set and position flexability.

Whoa! She can shoot from 25' no problem!
Rocky, exactly what you say. Geno said that, even before Azzi committed to UConn, they had a fantastic class, because: 1. they were exceptional character-kids; 2. they had the flexibility that UConn has been lacking in recent years. Geno said that recently they've had to construct their offense around their players instead of vice-versa, which was the usual approach. They are going to really enjoy moving Caroline around.

"Caroline Ducharme remembers listening to “The Obstacle Is The Way” — a book based on the third-century Hellenistic philosophy of stoicism — as she rehabbed from a torn ACL.
“The obstacle in the path becomes the path,” the book’s author Ryan Holiday wrote. “Never forget, within every obstacle is an opportunity to improve our condition.” "
She reads and buys into Hellenistic philosophy, AND she studies tape endlessly. NOT your typical incoming freshman. I am really looking forward to Caroline. Tough and smart. Great combination.
(aside...if she had picked ND, she might be a student for Semper. Sorry, buddy!)

(aside...if she had picked ND, she might be a student for Semper. Sorry, buddy!) Ryan Holiday has certainly merchandised Stoicism (although Seneca was rich too....) www.nytimes.com/2016/12/06/fashion/ryan-holiday-stoicism-american-apparel.htmlModern use of Stoicism is all over the map, but its most powerful application obviously is with CBT where it is one of the most widespread and effective approaches to therapy. Essentially, Stoics departed from Plato in arguing that thoughts are material. We can treat them as external objects. And therefore we have the power of assent. We can give or deny assent to our material thoughts. She would never have gone to ND: too much Aristotelianism there

Bulkey, thanks so much for that article. I had no idea Holiday was the lying SOB behind Dov Charney, and had repackaged himself. Thanks for showing me that I should have looked deeper than that Boston.com article. I'm still impressed with Caroline, tho!
