I wonder what it is like for her teammates as these "dreamed of" awards come spilling in. They can be happy for her yet wistful I think.

Wistful - 1 : full of yearning or desire tinged with melancholy also : inspiring such yearning a wistful memoir. 2 : musingly sad : pensive a wistful glance.

Rockymtblue2:
The question you ask is the same thing I thought last season when celebrities seemed to show up at Hopkins every week to hand Bueckers some national POY award. If there was any problem with her team it never showed. Bueckers is always crediting her team for her successes. There were maybe 6 players on her HS team that will get D1 scholarships. Nnagi et al can thank Bueckers for putting them into countless highlight videos and giving them national exposure when they weren't allowed to play in big HS tournaments outside Minn. I'd say that if she leads UConn to a title that ring will be better than any award from a committee.

Luckily, we don't see a lot of it in women's basketball - but I would argue that we do in the NBA and NFL, for example. How often do I hear them discussing some player on PTI (the only talking head program I listen to) and they talk about how bad a teammate some players actually are. I think most players play for team success (which at a lot of schools is not a NC, obviously). But I doubt any of them are disappointed in receiving personal awards. They work very hard at their game and being recognized for their hard work is not something to be embarrassed about. And their teammates above all know how hard so many award winners work and what they mean to their teams.
