Not a joke. Just heard it on the news.
From what I heard, contact tracing shows he has not had contact with anyone on the team since Friday.
He will be able to join the team on 3/24.
Looks like CD gets to coach the first couple of games...assuming she doesn't get COVID.
Sigh...and so it begins.

I heard the same report. He is asymptomatic. The report said that he has not had contact with any team members for a few days but my guess is that UConn is done for the year.

Wouldn't he have been eligible for the vaccine some weeks ago? What's he been busy doing, coaching or something?

Wouldn't he have been eligible for the vaccine some weeks ago? What's he been busy doing, coaching or something? Yes, he is eligible. Just read on ESPN he got his second dose of the vaccine last Wednesday...not enough time to fully protect him. Then again, I don't think the vaccine will 100% prevent you from getting the virus, but if you do get it the effects may not be as bad. Since he is asymptomatic, maybe the first vaccine dose has helped. How does the NCAA determine if a team can compete or not?

From ESPN:
The university said the longtime coach received a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine last Wednesday, but, "according to CDC guidelines, he remains nine-days shy of becoming fully vaccinated."

Contact tracing protocols revealed that Auriemma did not have close contact with any other team member since Friday. All "Tier I personnel" have tested negative for the virus since daily testing commenced, per NCAA Tournament protocol, on March 9, officials said. "After we received notification of the positive test result yesterday, we initiated contact tracing protocols, which included interviewing individual members of the basketball program and in-depth video analysis of practice," UConn Director of Sports Medicine and Head Team Physician Deena Casiero said. "Only household close contacts were identified. Given the fact that we have been doing daily testing for the past seven days, we feel confident that we were able to catch this very early on in the disease process. The remainder of Tier I tested negative yesterday and today." patch.com/connecticut/mansfield/uconns-geno-aureimma-tests-positive-coronavirus

Right, Ken. Here's the rest of that report:
"I'm feeling well but disappointed that I will be away from the team for the next several days," Auriemma said. "Fortunately, I have a great coaching staff who will lead us during my absence. This revelation is a reminder that, while there is a light at the end of the tunnel, we are not on the other side of this pandemic yet. The full effect of vaccines does not occur until 14 days after our last vaccine dose, and for those of us getting two-dose vaccine, that means we're not in the clear after just one-dose. My team and I need to remain vigilant in the areas of mask-wearing and social distancing as we continue this fight against COVID."

CD has proven herself capable of coaching in Geno's absence. So, if there is a silver lining, he will be back on the sidelines before the Sweet 16 - assuming we win the first two games. <mojo protection invoked>

Not to worry because UConn is still in the tourney and they'll be flying out to Texas tomorrow, but without Geno! They'll be tested everyday and; hopefully, they continue to have negative test results!! Assuming he tests negative, Geno can rejoin the team on 3/24?? I predict CD and her feisty freshmen will kick some a$$ their first game ........... get your popcorn ready!!!!

CD is undefeated as a coach.

It depends on where the NCAA places UConn. If they put them in a region that plays 3/21 and 3/23, Geno will miss two games. If in a region that plays 3/22 and 3/24, he would probably be back for the second game.

CD is undefeated as a coach. Now would NOT be the time to break her record.

Posted as a thread starter by vol fan VFL2407 on the orange board - Geno has COVID. I honestly hope he gets a terrible case of it. Not die. But be very sick and miss the whole tourney.
you know what? I don’t care if it makes me a bad person.
Pretty despicable comment but I have to say every response in the thread dumped on the OP.

Damn typical of some people on that site!! The best revenge is for Geno to stay asymptomatic, to rejoin the team and for UConn to kick the crap out of 6 teams!!! Geno is supposed to be interviewed on ESPN tonight during the selection shows!! I also hope everyone else stays negative including Geno's wife, the team and all support staff!!

As well they should have dumped on him. Only the most pathetic adult-couch-surfer-living-in-momma's-basement lowlife would wish severe illness on another person, no matter how much you may dislike them. And karma has a way of biting...in a very bitchy way. Sad specimen of a human being.
