Great article, covers the injury in detail, that part was TOUGH to read. The anticipation of what's coming makes me smile every time I think about it.

According to the headline, "Basketball's best prospect in decades" ... she's better than Paige. I think that's asking the impossible. But a player in the Bueckers tier ... would be blooming fantastic!

And Fudd -- who once hit 256 NBA-range 3s in 18 minutes during a catch-and-shoot drill...
That is making an NBA-line 3 every 4 seconds for 18 minutes. Think about that.

Let's hope Missouri makes it 1-4........ ![8D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/insane.png) .....!!!

I bridle a little at the hyperbolic ESPN praise of Azzi over Paige. They have some of the same talents but Paige has some that Azzi doesn't and Azzi has the edge on some 2 guard talents. They should make beautiful music together at Connecticut.

May they have happy and healthy years together here.

Was Stewie chopped liver? Because of her astonishing ability around the basket as well (on offense and defense), I think she is overall a more valuable player. Remember the possession where she blocked THREE shots?

Shooting 50% from the field is good. That means that you also miss 50% of the time...

Yes, their talents will complement each other quite well and they both understand - despite each of their tremendous talents - that there's no I in team! They're both what Geno refers to as good team mates and eager to win as a team!! I can't wait for the annual Spring time TOB whiney threads about who starts for UConn next season where the dystopian disciples of DOOM imagine ever more horrid UConn WCBB scenarios? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) Christ, it wasn't too many months ago some over yonder swore Geno would never start a freshman and poor Paige would wilt on the bench?? I rather think it makes more sense to feel pity for the other 350 or so DI WCBB Teams!! Ya hear that Dawn......it's time to plan your pity party for another loss to UConn in your house next season!!!

On the record, Nika still starts next year. She brings too many intangibles not to. How much do you suppose ESPN is regretting not outbidding FOX for the Big East TV rights? Or at least sharing them. The press coverage and general interest of Paige and Azzi on the same team will be off the charts.

Don't forget adding Caroline to the mix. Great skills and attitude, only New Englander on the Mickey D's team. Also great bud to both Paige and Azzi. And BTW - Grrrr is right - we need our Nika in the starting 5!

Imagine a lineup next year, for example, with Bueckers, Fudd, Williams, Edwards and Ono. You can't guard all of them. and Aubrey and Nika and Anna and Mir and Saylor and Caroline and Amari and ............ This past summer I felt the most important thing for Paige to become a meaningful starter was whether she could hit consistently from the perimeter ... I think we can record that as a check plus. For Azzi, my question is can she play a credible defense. Ultimately, can her offense + defense be better than that same calculation for Nika. Today, we see Nika with a strong D and that is still improving. Offensively (all, not just shooting), she is also contributing. She needs to score some more to keep that total going upward. Meanwhile, we can be fairly confident that Azzi is going to be a positive on the offensive side. She passes well, knows how to set - and get open using - a screen, and she may just hit a bucket or two. hehehe. But if the person she guards goes off for 40 points every night ... doubtful, but still ... then that math is going to favor Nika Bueckers plays decent defense today. It is variable, though. She's very good at stealing the ball, and winning rebounds. She hasn't blocked many shots, but the threat is real. Preventing penetration ... still room to grow (though a lot better than in December). Not losing her mark ... not bad, but will need to improve. Communicating and switching and such ... let's say ... not yet where Geno wants it to be. Of course, her offense is off the charts - so the equation is pretty darned favorable

yeah, yeah, yeah. This team (with Evina for Azzi) narrowly beat South Carolina and Tennessee and lost to Arkansas. Next year, we get 3 Mickie Ds and South Carolina gets 4 ('course we have Saylor, too, who would have been one). My point is that in spring training every baseball team looks like a sure-bet to win the World Series. We're very, very, very good. But so are a couple of other teams. That's the fun of it. Wouldn't want to completely dominate, like we did in Stewie's last year. How much fun was that? (A helluva a lot! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) ). Still.....

Maybe you've heard of ... DellaDonne, Griner, Parker, Holdsclaw, Catchings, McCoughtry, ... Okay enough. We've proven the statement hyperbolic.

ESPN rides the pony that draws the most attention at the time. They are always hyping the "player of the day" as the best this, the best that, the best ever, a unique talent...you get the idea.
In this case, while Paige and Azzi ARE that good, it is still the same old ESPN hyping the latest and greatest. I am just glad Paige and Azzi are on our team, and not on SC, TN, ND, Louisville...

Thanks for digging that up, Ken. Certainly one of the greatest defensive stands ever.
