I was on that bleed blue page a long time ago, but left because? LOL...I forget why I left It!! HA!! They're jealous idiots with the quality DD posts it would improve their site, but......?? Sorry DD, but we appreciate all you do here!! BTW.....the Courant is an old newspaper! Even older than me!! I was just thinking about Charles Beard and other historians who have cited the Connecticut Courant from back as far as 1780 or so......pretty amazing!!

RIGHT!!!!
So nuts.
We are really lucky to have each other. And frankly, there is not a need for much else. We get fantastic information, with what we have here, and Doggy's blog, and Ken and Phil and David and the knowledge that we Chappy, Rady, etc. share as long time serious fans, etc. and the Courant. I like the kids on Chasing Perfection, and they will learn more about the history as time goes by. And it is going by. These are very precious years in the history of UCONN basketball and we need to enjoy them.

Wow. Just, wow. Maybe a little birdie should drop a note to The Courant about the "paraphrasing" - er, copy and paste?
I wonder if Loraine is friends with Nan? Nan's animosity runs deep...no matter how much she says it isn't personal. In her case when it comes to you DD, I believe it is very personal.
No matter...we welcome you here.

So, out of curiosity I went to join the Bleed Blue facebook page. Dear lord...it is like applying for national security clearance! What is up with that?

I gave her that and Lorraine's name as well. Don't mess with Doggy!!

I missed the game but one thing that stuck out in the box score was the limited number of shots taken by UConn. The team typically takes about 65 attempts a game. Last night they had only 52 attempts. Was the game played really slow?

Yes, the announcers talked about of the Georgetown coach wanted the game in the 50s, so they played a very deliberate pace.

Yes, the announcers talked about of the Georgetown coach wanted the game in the 50s, so they played a very deliberate pace. The other sometime factor was that some of the UConn players passed more than they had to and took the possession to near the end of the shot clock. Sometime it paid off, but a number of time it led to a turnover, a forced pass or a less desirable shot! Christyn wasn't shy about shooting and that was mostly good! They were tired and it showed, but they played a lot of good defense and some good offense! Off now until the game @ St Johns on Wednesday 2/17!!

When Alexa first came to the Courant, I didn't know what to expect, but she's been really good and puts in many hours a week writing about the team & UConn! I really appreciate her work ethic and how quickly she learned about our favorite team! In this Apple Podcast Alexa talks about her work output @ the Courant at about the 35:30 mark: podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ut-35-wildcard-vol-18-sue-bird-diana-taurasi-sign-extensions/id1519124885?i=1000508711641

RIGHT, DD, very right. It is not YOUR ego that is an issue - this Loraine person and Nan wanted the clicks you bring, but not the praise for you. Remember what they say, "Illegitimi non carborundum" (Don't let the B*****ds get you down).
Thanks to David also for the stats!

I have been concerned of late about this team heading in a direction closer to Ohio State and Kelsey Mitchell a few years ago than to our Husky style. There was a ton of talent on that OSU team, several top transfers included, but they became a two-trick pony. Kelsey scores or Kelsey gets stopped and dishes either for a secondary shot, or a return to Kelsey with the ball trying to score. Everyone else was just there to rebound and cover the fact that Kelsey wasn't much of a defender. Paige is outstanding. All the more so because she's killing it playing away from her greatest strengths. But everyone else seems to be taking a backseat, along for the ride. Christyn is the only one who seems to feel responsible for holding up her end ... hindered by, and exacerbating her recent shooting woes. Early on, Paige wasn't looking for her own shot enough. Geno was frustrated and pushed her buttons and theirs to up her chances. Great. But now it seems that everyone else is passing up on shots, while waiting for an opportunity to arise for Bueckers. Others only seem to put it up if Paige passes to them ... as if that releases them from their bond to get her the ball. That will win some games because she's crazy good, but it probably won't lead to our 12th banner. Be a scout for a moment. Nika only takes threes. If she drives past her defender ... who cares? Olivia seems to notice occasionally and respond with a deep jump shot. Rereading the above before posting I have exaggerated to make my point. It's not terrible today, but it seems to be headed toward that end. Please convince me of my folly.

For one thing, Geno didn't hire Paige's father as an assistant coach. Seriously, the key thing about this team is its D-E-F-E-N-S-E. Even look at the back of their jerseys this year: DEE. Paige is turning into an excellent defender, but so are others. It's a T.E.A.M. thing. That Nika broke into the line-up based on her scrappiness (she's "young, scrappy, and hunger," though sometimes she does throw away her shot) testifies to what Geno is developing here. And you forgot to mention Aubrey and Aaliyah: some serious frontcourt talent! This team is hard nosed and tough. Does D's 03 and 04 teams remind you of the OSU even though she carried them. Nah.

You are correct, of course about the D. I meant on the offensive end. Diana carried those teams, but she also made them score. She didn't even average 20pts/game, IIRC.

No, not even 20 ppg, I'm sure. She made everyone around her better. Maybe that's Paige's next challenge.

I don't think it's the scoring, but the mindset. It's the difference between we're in great shape because we have Paige and you don't vs. Don't worry, Paige will carry the scoring load. I think Christyn is trying to pick up the slack. Recognizing that's what a Junior leader should be doing... Probably adding to the pressure she puts on herself

First of all, read my blog for 2/13. It will make you feel better. Secondly, your take on her scoring is way off. It's not a bad thing that she can do what she does. Those 30 point games, while consecutive, were the exception, not the rule. The last two games were more like what we will see from her, well, until UConn needs her to score 30+ again. She is averaging "only" 21 PPG. That 63 additional points each game is coming from somewhere. Yep, the rest of the team actually contributes. Players have bad games. The beauty is that this team is built to withstand those games because other players pick up the slack. So, no, having Paige dominate the game is not a bad thing. She is truly a scoring playmaker. The only other player in recent history like that is Serena Ionescu. And she was never the shooter that Paige is. Just watch over the next 11 games. Geno will have them like a fine oiled team by the time the Elite Eight comes along.
