Maybe they'll put a banner up saying "The Ball Did It"
A whiner tendency.

Imagine Geno saying that at last year's presser: I'm not making excuses, but it's a lot different playing with the Wilson ball than the Nike ball. They would have laughed him out of Columbia.

Schools in session Gamecocks!! !! Y'all got INCOMPLETES for allowing UConn & Paige Buckers to steal your lunch money in overtime! imgflip.com/i/4xb9oz

Nope, nothing to add to that. Not gonna do it. OK, fine. Instead of crying about the ball why don't you teach your players how to make a layup?

Does a ball really make that much of a difference? And if the ball is approved by the NCAA, quit complaining. Maybe you should practice with different balls? Oh, wait. South Carolina isn't a Nike school, are they? But around 71% of SEC schools are Nike schools too. This can't be the first game they played with a Nike ball.
Can I take back my comparison of class between Dawn and Muffett? I think Muffett still wins the totally classless award, but Dawn just spewed a lot of class eroding BS in this post game. Sliding down the classless scale, one loss at a time.

I had just posted that in my blog. Complaining about the friggin' ball? She is a jerk. Never liked her. It made me laugh. If you were a coach hosting the 'Cocks in the coming days ... would you be looking for the softest, least bouncy balls available? Would you be trying to figure out whether you could get some Nike balls into the game without breaking some existing contract? Maybe even trying to set them all to the minimum inflation allowed?

GREAT point about the 71% of SEC using Nike. What a jerk. Couldn't keep her mouth shut and be gracious in defeat, instead makes excuses for her players tender egos. Probably cause they now realize what their up against. Changing the subject, did you guys catch Nika's postgame? I think Geno performed a Vulcan mind meld on her. She sounded just like him, we gotta do this better and that better, etc. She is all in, he has to be so happy. As all of us are.

Can we infer that, when UConn played at SC last year, and lost, that the ball that was used was one familiar to SC and unfamiliar to the UConn team? I think we'll have to infer this, rather than knowing for sure, because, I DON'T REMEMBER ANYBODY BITCHING ABOUT IT LAST YEAR!

Really it seemed utterly ridiculous to me. Do you think there is a grain of truth to it? Are the balls different in any way at all?

Yes, and how to make better passing decisions & how to protect the ball when dribbling?? The problem for Dawn's back court was they were out-played on both ends of the court! Case closed!! !! 2 freshmen twins; Paige and Nika, schooled Dawn's poor dears!! Get used to it Dawn because it's only just begun!

Slightly, but the real problem was the very good UConn defense and the poor SC guard play! Against most other teams the SC guard play would have been good, but UConn played very good defense!! Nika and Paige - 2 freshmen - really were outstanding!! And neither one appeared to be tired after 45 minutes of hard work!!! Both worked extremely hard and smart on both offense and defense!! It was a team win, but those 2 were so solid!!!! The entire team is gonna mature from the tough game yesterday!! Geno was happier than I can ever remember! But he's still gonna push them in practice this week!!

I always see refs dropping balls before the game to ensure they bounce properly. That's it. Minor difference? How about the players that for years had to play with 2 different sized balls between college, pro, Olympics and such. All that said, it just doesn't matter. When you get players like UConn does and know what to do with them like Geno does . . .

Meanwhile; some where near Columbia, South Carolina, Coach Dawn Staley is having a NIKEphobia meltdown: imgflip.com/i/4xfgpm

Let's see....she says she isn't making excuses but the Nike ball is different....and says it twice. Forgive me, but that sounds very much like an excuse my once-upon-a-time 7 year old would make.

A couple of things that surprised me. There are so many different balls being used with apparently little or no standards applied and the NCAA cannot dictate what ball is used except in their tournaments.
You would think that a super coach like Staley would have her team practice with the other team's ball before a big game.

Bingo! Unless, of course, their contract with UnderArmour forbids such a thing.

Interesting. Still, her team has played nearly half their games with the same balls used Monday night.

Agree..! Here's a bit from the article. Different, but fairly standard size (29 1/2 inch) and close in weight (20-22 ounces). "The NCAA’s basketball guidelines are liberal. A ball must have eight panels of pebbled leather or composite material. It can weigh between 20 and 22 ounces.
Virtually every team uses a 29 1/2-inch ball.
Despite certain bounciness and air-pressure standards, no two game balls feel the same, many players interviewed for this report said. As the balls are broken in, they develop unique characteristics, like a baseball mitt.
UCLA forward Tony Parker thinks the variation is mostly innocent.
“It’s not a Deflategate deal,” he said."
