I know folks are down on the UCONN offense, but they did score 87 in their only loss, with a pretty fair shot at the buzzer that would have sent the game into overtime.
But the freshman class was pretty darned good in this game.
Paige was OMG level
They tried to trap Nika a couple of times and then just gave up. Some nice threes from her as well
Aaliyah dominated inside on offense and learned some important lessons at the other end
Mir was the best defender on the floor
All four played critical minutes, and I believe Edwards would have been out there in the final minutes had she not fouled out. That's a LOT more than the "apprentice minutes" most freshmen ever get. Even with an unstoppable team around them, future AA and Wall members Napheesa and KLS were rarely in the game together as frosh. It's easy to name players who contributed a lot as rookies -Maya, Stewie, Diana, Nurse, Hartley.... But when have even two youngsters at once been trusted in a game like this, let alone four?!? These are special times.
Look out D-Men, there's going to be hell to pay for that loss.

This group of freshmen other than Bueckers probably would've gotten apprentice minutes also if not for the total washout of the 2017 class. And that's not to say that I thought that was a standout class. It was a poorly constructed class to begin with all being 5-10 to 6-1 wing/guards. Probably not what GA intended, I believe he most likely wanted a couple bigs in there and couldn't get them so he went with 4 bodies. But it looks to me like that hole in recruiting is what led to having to rely on just ONO inside and unforeseen opportunity for a surprisingly large freshmen class now.
