Any news on the replay from Arkansas game.... yes, I missed it and will force myself to watch. Doggy requires me to watch or he won't put my stats in his blog...

Some from Over Yonder a/k/a TOB are critical of Paige for not taking over a lot sooner. It is all in the way you package it, your tone as it were. Too often her team ignores a wide open Paige. Been going on all year. The worst offender is CW. One way to address the problem is to not give up the ball, but that enables the defense to concentrate on you.
BTW at 7:12 you can see a TO by ONO that reveals so much. She has allowed herself to be pushed too far outside, she stands there for a couple of seconds as the D moves in, then she puts it on the ground and the ball is picked. If we had a true Big I'd like to see her tried at the 4 as a face the basket big.

If we had a true Big I'd like to see her tried at the 4 as a face the basket big. When Olivia moves that far outside on offense, it's a lose lose situation for UConn because she has NO outside shooting ability and she's not gonna grab a rebound?? She's no Breanna Stewart nor is she Candace Parker; both of whom can play effectively while roaming? Moreover; she's not a very good passer in spite of her height because she often telegraphs her passes and they're often too late to be effective? Paige defers to the more senior players and that's ok with Evina, but not with Christyn?? Paige actually took over in time and they caught Arkansas, but the team then allowed Arkansas to regain the lead with porous defense and bricklayer Christyn tossing up more bricks? If Paige didn't play, we'd have lost by 20 points because that would have given Christyn more opportunities to toss up bricks and Arkansas to rebound them? The Arkansas players hit many tough shots, but we also were often too late to cover them at the 3 point line? The game began with Christyn missing her assignment and allowing Dungee a WIDE OPEN 3 point shot @ 9:02 of the 1st quarter??? Christyn was 'late' other times as was Paige, Evina, Aubrey and Nika? If you don't take a team like Arkansas serious, they'll bury you in a barrage of 3 point shots? During the 3rd quarter when they out-scored us 31-19, we allowed them to shoot 6-7 from 3 point range? Christyn was slow to defend on 2 of those 6 3s??? Half way through that quarter she misses a layup with contact and a foul is called, but she misses BOTH free throws? A minute later she tosses up another brick?? UConn was whistled for many more fouls than was Arkansas and it should have been the other way around, but you have to somehow persevere in those poorly officiated games? We didn't? With 15.8 seconds left in the game and Arkansas in a time out, the irony was in the huddle!! Dungee is telling her teammates: "don't foul ...don't foul"!!! I chuckled because the officiating was so bad that NOTHING was gonna be whistled against Arkansas at that point........ ...... ?? Dungee herself was like the cat with 9 lives; except she committed about that many fouls which were ignored by the zebras?? Too many arm bars to count, literally running over Nika with 6:09 left in the 4th and mauling Mir as she shot with 7:25 left in the 4th? Geno was particularly irate after one of the more egregious arm bars, but the officials kept ignoring them? Up next is DePaul and I'd like to see a starting lineup of Evina, Paige, Aaliyah, Aubrey and Mir or Nika because they'll actually come to play!! Evina and Paige, along with the freshmen at times, played very well

I honestly don't know what guides Liv's offensive movements. Is she encouraged or discouraged in practice from going outside and/or shooting from there? UConn plays read and react 5-out motion, not 4-out motion, which means that every player rotates through and is considered essentially the same offensive threat. www.coachbase.com/5-out-motion-offense-complete-guide/4-out is generally used by a team which doesn't want the center far from the hoop. I guess Geno could have gone 4-out if he didn't want Liv doing what she's doing. (Read and react adds even greater complexity and R&R 5-out is the most demanding offense you can play, famously by Bobby Knight, Jay Winter...and Geno.) This issue is somewhat similar for me as wondering why Christyn effectively dribbled away UConn's chance at the end. Were the players coached up in the huddle just before the play to that possible situation or was Christyn on her own making such a poor choice? Bill Belichick has always sucked as a coach, since we now see it was Brady all the time. Ditto Geno. Despite his own suckiness, it was his great players that won 11 NCs. Not!

As for the refs, I was really concerned pregame that the lopsided reffing would occur, only my word for it is slanted or biased. SEC venues are notorious for it. Arkansas players were allowed many fouls. So many I though they might be a Croatian travel team. A little levity there, but I mean it. Nuetral venue we win.

In his post game comments Geno mentioned that Olivia wanted to play like a guard instead of a center......a hint that she's roaming too far out? He also addressed the end of game plan they discussed in the time out just prior to that play with 15.8 seconds left in the game. Depending on the amount of time left they were either supposed to call for a time out if only a few seconds were left on the clock, or get a fast break if time allowed? They assumed that Arkansas would hold the ball and not shoot until the end of the shot clock, but were prepared either way! Given the 4 seconds left on the clock; a timeout should have called immediately, but a mistake was made and Christyn dribbled for 3 seconds! Nobody is perfect and the shot clock violation buzzer going off may have impacted her decision to dribble? We really lost this game in the 3rd quarter when we were throttled 31-19 and gave Arkansas confidence!!

So, I guess Geno doesn't suck.

Our 3rd quarter was brutal with a number of defensive slip ups and Arkansas was also shooting very well! They hit 6-7 3 point shots during the quarter and out-scored us 31-19??

as for the end, Geno was SCREAMING Time Out at the ref nearest him, who patently ignored him until the vital seconds had ticked off. It is safe to assume the ref near CW would have ignored her pleas too. It's too much to ask a kid to check the clock, grab the rebound and remember if they're supposed to call TO. Which is why Geno was screaming it at the ref, who so conveniently had a hearing issue.
Still, I believe the game was lost long before then, when ONO kept losing the ball, CW starting shooting bricks, and defense became a total joke.
I love these girls. They help me survive the dark days of winter, even if once in while they lose a game.

Yes this was a tough game to swallow, but I'm expecting they'll learn from it and be a better team by tourney time!! I hope Geno gives the feisty freshmen as many minutes as possible so they can gel and gain increased confidence!
