My guess is this means they will have two pods of four teams each, with each pod playing a three-game round-robin. I think it also means that South Carolina and Oregon must be in one of the pods, with UConn in the other.
All of fans probably don't get to decide, do you think fans of the other five teams would prefer to be in the pod where you have to be both South Carolina and Oregon to win the pod, or in the pod with UConn.
I won't be surprised if being in the UConn pod will be viewed as the more desirable outcome.

Also tough to guess who stays on a team like Syracuse, a potentially a very dangerous team if everyone comes back.

The promos talk about this being the first year that the women will be at this event, which is correct, but the inaugural year was supposed to be 2020. You know it was canceled
The teams invited last year were: Central Michigan Marquette Minnesota Oklahoma Oregon South Carolina South Florida Syracuse
Six of the eight teams signed up for this year's event, with central Michigan and Marquette dropping out, replaced by Buffalo and UConn.

The field is very strong, with two teams currently in the top 10 and another one, Oregon just outside that level.
I looked to see if there was an island tournament with that much firepower. In 2005 the Paradise Jam had Tennessee, Michigan State, and Maryland, all of which were ranked in the top 10 at the time
In the 2007 Paradise Jam, UConn and Stanford were both in the top five. Duke and Purdue were ranked eighth and 20th respectively.
In the 2009 Paradise Jam, there were three top 25 teams, Notre Dame ranked number five, in Oklahoma and San Diego State ranked 20 and 23 respectively.
I may have missed something (and I only checked Paradise Jam), but this event has the makings of being the strongest field at an island tournament, obviously depending on how the top three teams are ranked early this fall.
