I was looking forward to Amari’s homecoming game against Buffalo!

I'd grab her in a heartbeat. 2 years of a 6'3" very, very good rebounder and efficient scorer. But I'd bet she'll want to go where she gets the majority of competitive minutes, which is isn't easy to see at UConn. I think UCLA, Stanford or USC would all be good fits for him her (or them?). Edited by Chappie. Thanks, Chappie: I was totally jetlagged when I wrote that.

Clingan has another 2 years eligibility. I wonder if he would switch teams?

Did Amari post a “farewell and thanks” message on Twitter (never X) or instagram? Or did I miss it? Could Geno have had a tough love conversation with her and maybe she is leaving with some bitterness? I hope that isn’t the case. But, she never really developed into a reliable player which was a problem with a very short bench. We know Geno is very honest with his players. And before her concussion Geno never really talked about her. I remember Geno and several players once saying to the effect that as long as he is yelling at you and making “can’t guard a chair” comments he hasn’t given up on you. It is when he stops you need to worry.
I do wish her well, and I really love her personality. She just never really found her groove at UConn for reasons that will likely remain a mystery.

There was a presser at the beginning of the tournament where Geno made the very terse announcement that Deberry would not be available for the tournament. I posted at the time that it felt like that was the end of Deberry at UCONN. I think Geno finally decided that he could no longer waste a scholarship on someone that contributes nothing. I also think that he had a much more difficult conversation with Ines who did actually contribute something, but in appreciation he facilitated a great spot at USF with old friend Jose.
Just my very uninformed opinion but in light of the commitment of Sarah Strong along with all of the very recent rumors, I think Geno is going all in to get an NC for Paige before she leaves. Thats how highly he thinks of her.

Interpreting a ton from Geno to make derogetory comments about DeBerry is just unnecessay. That being said, You are correct about Geno going all in, which is why he is probably looking for another big to that end. Figers crossed for Beers coming to Storrs. I would consider her the final piece of the puzzle.

Thats how highly he thinks of her. Your speculation is reasonable Here's an alternative perspective: Geno and Amari may have been discussing her portal future for quite some time. With this year's eligibility already used up, it made sense for her to finish out the season to maintain her educational standing and the continuity of the team. They could have agreed that she would make it official after their playoff run ended. This equally speculative interpretation may have impacted her public persona. Some have said that her enthusiasm from the bench was lower this year (although I didn't notice it). This might also help explain why there wasn't a more concentrated effort by the coaching team to get her more game minutes. I would bet that he is helping her find a next destination, too. Unless her expectations are wildly out of reason.

But, she is a slam dunk for nearly anyone outside the top say 30-50 teams in the country. She's an instant starter on those teams. I'll serve as her agent. Consider these ten stream-of-consciousness reasons to bring her into your program: 1. No other players on those teams would have a sniff at playing at UConn either. 2. Amari has size and skills. 3. She's been there with a winning team. 4. Has had great coaching. 5. Maybe a good coach can motivate her to work harder. 6. Perhaps a new start invigorates her. 7. She is a proven positive locker-room presence, and teammate. 8. Former top 10 recruit. 9. DeBerry is good in an interview, and has experience with a microphone in her face, and has been very active in the Huskies' community outreach events. 10. A little success can heal a lot of scars, and bring out the best in someone. Bonus: Don't be surprised if she ends up in a public basketball role.... You might get a lot of recruiting value out of her ties to your program for years to come
