From a Fox News article -
"It’s pretty remarkable," Auriemma said after UConn defeated USC to clinch a spot in the tournament semifinals. "Next weekend should be just as much fun as this weekend. Yeah, I hope Caitlin Clark had a personal agenda against LSU. I know there’s nothing personal between me and her. I don’t need to be seeing her drop 50 on us next weekend, you know?"
Although Auriemma recently declared that Paige Bueckers was the "best player in America," he jokingly reversed course and bestowed the honor on Clark. "I love her. I think she’s the best player. Forget I ever said Paige is the best player in the country. I think she’s the best player of all time. I don’t know whoever said, that I said, that Paige is the best player in the country."

That reminds me of the scene from Patton when Patton complains about the British General criticizing American troops and the British General who said it apologizes to Patton by saying something like "I apologize for that remark, for whoever said it." Geno is still really quick on his feet and the wicked sense of humor is still intact.

Geno is still really quick on his feet and the wicked sense of humor is still intact. I think that was Field Marshall Montgomery in Sicily, who later was a disaster at Normandy in Operation Cobra and surrounding movements. Churchill knew he couldn't recall him without a political firestorm, and the allies had to suffer from his incompetence. A guy of infinite verbal cleverness and leadership skills, but lacking Geno's strategic brilliance. :-)
