My ears always perk up when I hear a sentence that starts "the first time they've done this since…". It purports to be the lead into something impressive, and I'm expecting a year like 1985 or maybe 1994, I might even accept 2006. But it's often followed by 2018 or 2019 and my reaction is "that's just the other day". It's nice that you've done this but let's not make it sound like the ending of an incredible drought.
I don't know that you can beat this one though:
Seriously!?
Their first final four since 2022?!?
Oh the humanity!!

Do you think it was a joke to say it that way?

Do you think it was a joke to say it that way? My guess is some mid-level person gave instructions to an intern create a graphic for each team. The <fill in team name> are going to the final four <add emojies>
<team name1> defeats <team name2> <score> To advance to their first final four since <Fill in year>
And they didn't give it much thought.

Do you think it was a joke to say it that way? Maybe the writer had already written the article for USC winning. If it was USC who had won then the sentence would have relevance. Or maybe the article was written by AI? As for UConn and the FF a more apt intro would be:
Friday was supposed to be the Clark v Watkins Show but UConn crashed the party. I watched Bueckers' face last night and it was all business. She has now taken her team to her third FF in 3 years.

I would have said: "Uconn has been in 15 of the last 16 FF's, absent only in 2023." And leave it at that. No predictions for the future, etc.

Bueckers was a warrior last night. I've been trying to think of a comparison and had to go outside basketball and into the world of fictional characters.
WARNING The end of this 2-3 min snippet is moderately gross.
Riddick doesn't talk much either.

This is about my limit. But there is much worse out there.
