I keep reading about the challange UConn faces against the size of Baylor. Last I looked both Brown and Cox are gone. Let's look at what all the worry is about.
BAYLOR Gusters - 6'5"
Egbo - 6'3"
Smith - 6'2"
Richards- 6'1"
Bickle - 6'
UCONN
ONO - 6'5"
Edwards 6'3"
Makurat - 6'2"
Westbrook - 6'1"
Griffin - 6'1"
Bueckers - 6'
(notice that I omitted Gabriel.
Gusters is a talented, large but out of shape freshman who carries around a spare tire as large as my own. If Egbo gets into foul trouble Baylor is faced with playing her long minutes or going 6'2, 6'1 6' across their front line.
This will likely be a very good Baylor team but not even close to the physical power they had 2 years ago. Now compared to some of UConn's opponents this year they certainly have size but UConn wins the tale of the tape. The edge that the Bears have is experience.
I'm looking forward to seeing Richards take on Bueckers defensively. If nothing else it would take her off the other 4 while making it tough for Richards to contribute offensively.

Queen Egbo is like Aubrey last year. Athletic, talented, but lost a lot and very subject to fouling when coming from the weak side to help. Nalyssa Smith is a less smooth version of Napheesa. Under-sized up front, but succeeds anyway. The ball finds her. Gusters vs Gabriel would be a fun battle. Gusters a smidge more polished, but not nearly as fit.

I must admit, I didn't think Anna was that tall - but, the roster agrees with you! Must be usin' them Hartley Scale units again...

Looking forward to seeing that, DD. I've been wondering if Geno would try pressing the bears. Neither Didi nor Moon Ursin are natural PGs. Their bigs are not great ball handlers, and they're not blessed with a super deep bench. They are well coached, though. Also, I hope Baylor does try to press Paige and Evina. I think the Huskies would carve them up with outstanding passing all over the court. Thoughts?

I think Geno will not necessarily press, but he certainly will pressure the ball, forcing Baylor to have less time to run any half court offense. From what I have seen, most of their offense is running off defensive rebounds and scoring after an offensive rebound. The reason they have so many assists is from scoring off the break. I don't think I've seen a college guard with the ball handling ability of Bueckers. Certainly as a freshman, but even any age. She has the ball on a string and does it in such a calm way. And paired with Evina and Williams? Almost unpressable!

If we box out well, we have the size, strength, and ability to limit those points. Also remember that in order to get a tap in, the first shot (and maybe the next three) had to be a miss. They run a lot, but part of that is playing putrid cupcakes. They've played a significantly worse schedule than we have, and the bottom end of that would get creamed by UMass Lowell.

Much as I would like to start a Baylor game day thread, I don't want to do it too early. I have taken to creating the thread the morning of the game so as not to tempt the fates.

I won't put out my pregame report until probably Monday. I do want to wait until after Baylor's next game which is Saturday against this time a Big 12 cupcake TCU.

I was reading the discussion on TOB, which is pretty interesting. Tony C has a lot to say in the thread, as the initial poster. One guy says this is how to beat us. Is it OK to bring stuff from over there here for discussion. I thought this was worthy of thought (although most isn't better than what we already have been saying over here):
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to counter Kim Mulkey's game plan against UCONN.
Kim Mulkey's UCONN game plan
Keys to UCONN's winning: Bueckers and Nelson-Ododa and scoring in the paint. Bueckers is the catalyst for UCONN's Offense. She is a freshman who has never experienced tight, aggressive, and effective ball denial one-on-one defense. Blanket and frustrate her with DiDi Richards. For the 2019-20 season Richards was named WBCA Defensive Player of the Year and Naismith Defensive Player of the Year Award as well as Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. On defense Bueckers is easily beaten by quick fast guards (see Seton Hall's Park-Lane). Force switches so Bueckers has to guard Ursin Moon (Park-Lane type). If UCONN goes zone, simply move Moon to Bueckers and exploit her. Get Bueckers in foul trouble. She will oblige. Result: Bueckers neutralized. 8 or fewer points, 3 or less assists, 5 or more turnovers, 4 or less rebounds. Nelson-Ododa is the inside presence for the UCONN offense, second highest scorer and best rebounder. On defense guard Ododa with Queen Egbo who is more athletic and quicker. Since UCONN has no three point option, more like 15 feet and out, crowd the paint when the ball goes into Ododa. Force her to pass back out to UCONN's inffective shooters which is any player not name Bueckers. Of course DiDi has her covered. On offense have Egbo use her quickness and leaping ability to score and to foul out Ododa. Go at Ododa. She will obligingly commit a silly foul or five. If she does not foul out she will play loose defense (Ole!) for fear of fouling out. Result: Ododa neutralized. 10 or fewer points, 3 or less assists, 5 or more turnovers, 6 or fewer rebounds, fouled out. Exploit UCONN's ineffective three point shooting which includes two point shots 15 to 19 feet. Pack the defense inside 15 feet. Stop guard drives and Ododa's scoring. Use man-to-man or a box and one with Richards dogging Bueckers. UCONN will be reduced to passing the ball around the perimeter only to toss up a desperation three pointer as the shot clock runs out. Let UCONN embarrass themselves with long range misses. Result: UCONN's top two scoring threats will be shutdown. UCONN's offense will be sorely disrupted by Richards effectively removing Bueckers from the game. UCONN's defense will take care of itself (see their coaches own words).

UCONN's offense will be sorely disrupted by Richards effectively removing Bueckers from the game. UCONN's defense will take care of itself (see their coaches own words). So much to unpack. Yes,they're likely to clog up the inside. Everyone will until the threes start falling. Egbo is smaller, but not quicker, and equally athletic in comparison to Liv. Both are prone to foul trouble. Liv is much better offensively. Didi defending Paige is an obvious tactic. I'm not so sure it'll be as effective as suggested. Go around picks, and she can get a quick shot off. Switch and the tactic is already broken. As to believing Moon Ursin can drive past Bueckers at will... no. Watch that SH game again. Park-Lane beat Paige on the drive... twice. Possibly could credit a third when PB was nearby, but that was on a fast break and no one was set defensively. LP-L drove and scored, more times, but not on Paige. And counting on fouling out a PG on any team is such an unlikely occurrence. Let alone trying to do so against an AA candidate. Besides, in Westbrook and Nika, Geno has options available to relieve some of the burden on the kid. So, I would expect those main themes to come true at least some of the time. Guard our best with their best. Clog the middle. Duh. But that's all glommed together with mythology and unsupported fantasy. I think the starting groups are fairly well matched. UCONN has a big advantage in quality and depth on the bench. It should be a good test. If the team plays well, the game will be a lot of fun. Lay an egg, and it will be a long night and a lonely, quiet flight home. Either way, it's a learning experience for the newbies. Helping to prepare them for tournaments to come

She is listed as 5'11" on the UConn roster page. She has grown since then. And she plays even taller. She can really jump. Last game, on that layup that rolled out of the rim (on the right side), she must have been near rim height.

How deep is Baylor's bench, anyway? Sigh....more Baylor preview...lol. Why bother to write the damn pregame....lol. As usual, they have played no one for the most part and in those games they go 13 deep. However, in their two competitive games they only go 7-8 deep.

Right up there with stand around the basket and yell "miss." The guy is a riot.
