If I were Dawn Staley
I'd find a way to share some thoughts with the Selection Committee regarding the possibility, as outlined by Creme's bracket, that South Carolina should go to Oklahoma.
Let's not pretend that this is about Notre Dame, and that they may deserve a seeding ahead of South Carolina. That's a close call, but for the sake of argument, let's even concede it may be true. If we accept that UConn gets the top seed and Albany, clearly more preferable to UConn than the other three locations, then if ND is next up they should get the next best location. That isn't Spokane leaving OK City and Greensboro. Now Greensboro is slightly closer, but let's face it, neither is close enough for a large number of fans to drive. Most fans going to the game will fly, and it isn't much difference in flying time between the two locations.
When you are trying for overall optimality, and two options are essentially identical, you look to the next team to see if it would make any difference. And it clearly makes a big difference. South Carolina is much better off in NC. So you can make the third team much better off, without hurting the second team. Why on earth would you even consider shipping South Carolina out?
The simple answer is to accommodate Tennessee. They don't want to go to Albany and would much prefer Greensboro, but they can't go to Greensboro if South Carolina is there. It is clear that the decision is intended to accommodate TN at the expense of South Carolina.
South Carolina has the better record, tied for the regular season title, beat TN in the regular season and in the Conference tournament, winning the SEC Conference Tourney. It is unconscionable that this performance would result in a preferred seeding for TN, but that is exactly what the Creme bracket suggests.
We all know that Creme is far from perfect. He gets most of the team selected right 96 of the last 98, but doesn't always get the locations right, but his choices are an attempt to predict what the committee may be thinking. If I'm Dawn Staley I was to make sure the committee is not thinking that Tennessee deserves more consideration than TN, and should place South Carolina in Greensboro, even if that isn't what TN wants.
