Boring second half. Very flat.

But the first half was dazzling.
Short game. They're interviewing Stewie to fill time.

9 more wins away, all that matters. KML and Stewie played too well early it covered for a good amount of mistakwe, but still killed them. Tuck also played very well.

Bench not involved to any extent. I guess we didn't get ahead enough.

This game went about as I expected. South Florida is a good team. Definitely top 25 caliber. And Williams is every bit as good as Loyd. Switch players and you won't see much difference in their respective team's records.
I called for a 25 point win for UConn. It was 23.
Last half of the last game of the regular season and they lost a little concentration and intensity. Totally expected.

So what is to be learned from this game? Nothing new.
Stewart is POY. KML is the a great shooter. Tuck is a bull in the paint. Etc...etc.
Also, that Geno wants to get Stewart used to big minutes. She didn't get much rest the first 35 minutes.

Yes, I thought about his strategy with Stewie. What about Mo jeff? I couldn't watch the game. Is she OK?

After making the first 6 shots of the second half the team seemed to lose their edge. Interesting that USF kept their starters in until the end.
Stewart was great. Nice bounce-back game from Tuck. Nurse was good in the 2nd half. Not much from the Saniya or Gabby though I thought Kia played pretty well.
Post season now starts.

Agree with Doggie
Team was devastating in first half against spirited opponent with very quick and fearless guards.
If there is a downside, it is that our stars were so spectacular that the others (shall we say role players) seemed a tiny bit less motivated (aggressive?) a phenomenon we occasionally saw in previous seasons; Maya…Diana for example. I'm sure Geno will get after them about that.
All in all….blah second half taken into account….a valuable experience. And I expect that in the re-re-match, likely in the tourney. We will defeat them more soundly by taking away any hope early with yet more effective defensive schemes,

CD post game show
We played a great 1st half. The second half, after the first 5 minutes, we lost a little bit. Credit to USF they played hard. USF was physical with Stewie and she handled it well and scored in different ways. She was locked in.
We (Tuck) missed some easy layups and momentum changed. Still, we made some key shots when we needed to.
Overall, it was a hard game in a great environment. They played physical and we were able to handle it.
Williams is a good player and we did a better job in 1st half by denying her the ball. We let them get in to our defense in the 2nd half and we didn't rebound as well but we still won by 20+ points on the road against a good team. We're not going to beat every team by 30-40 points.
USF mixed up starting lineup and they went smaller. Different look, we are seeing this around the country as teams are going smaller, being physical and taking chances with officials...
We'll get a couple of days off, and post season starts on Saturday.

Jim Fuller@nhrjimfuller #UConn's Geno Auriemma on Breanna Stewart's performance: "She was unbelievable tonight & they were pretty physical with her too."

I agree with Cat that, after the first 6 possessions (and 6 baskets) of the second half, we lost focus. USF got too many rebounds, especially on the offensive end. It seemed as if USF got the majority of the loose balls and 50-50 plays. USF is a good team, and they can hit open shots. They also have quickness. To me, they look like a top-20 team. They came within 23 at their place; we beat SC by 25 at our place.
Interesting statement by DoggyDaddy. I was impressed with Williams. Is she as good as Loyd? I don't know, but both are very good, quick, and athletic.
I have a bit of a pet peeve regarding the people who anointed Loyd the NPOY in mid-season. Watch Stewie since she was benched. She's playing better than anyone, like a combo of Maya and Tina.

* I also thought it was a great day for Stewart. She played lots of minutes (I'm guessing Geno wants her ready to play tired in the Tourney) and she did great while being pummeled and not getting many calls. No shows of frustration or getting out of control. If only her outside shot would get better again! * Glad to see Tuck do well. I was afraid she was having an issue - physically or mentally - but she looked very good. * KML is playing so well. I believe once again this year she will show her stuff in all the big games. * The defense got a bit lost at times - especially the guards. I guess that lack of focus. And I think that quick driving guards continue to be difficult for UConn to defend. * While Mo didn't have a jaw-dropping game, her 3 stayed working and she played mostly within herself, avoiding the out-of-control stuff she might have done last year. * C.Williams was really impressive! * The broadcast really, really stunk!!! Poor camera angles and the announcers wanted to talk about everything else. Even early on when USF was close they were rambling on and not following the game. WTF? They might as well have said "This game is not real interesting. We just want to talk about basketball stuff and hear ourselves talk. You viewers can figure out what is going on if you want (we don't)" I would have thought that if ESPN was bothering to broadcast, they would have insisted that the announcers pretend that they are interested in the game presented!

Yea, still seems like this still might be one of the only weaknesses UCONN has. Quick driving guards still tend to give us problems. Still won by 20+, but it's something they can work on.

I don't know any teams where quick guards don't give them trouble. These guards, like Williams, are just really good. In the Stanford game, it was the help defense that was unusually bad. Williams pull up jumper is unstoppable. She is going to get her 25 shots if she wants to.

"she did great while being pummeled and not getting many calls" Wonder if refs know how inept they are. Maybe they want to keep it close. Wonder if the blogs (if they are aware of them) have some influence? As a fan, maybe that's just my perspective.

The usual suspects were at it again on TOB, with regard to Saniya's defense. I, of course, was not able to watch the game. What did y'all think?

What did y'all think? gonna watch after I take care of some errands. and for the record, I refuse to assign demerits based upon one game. Saniya has worked hard this season and it had shown itself in many ways.

How true! At least twice they went to commercial during a time out and came back in seconds in the middle of a play. SNY does a better job. And you're right about the announcers getting off-game really early.

South Florida has a very unfortunate nickname for women's sports! Wonder if they ever tried to call them "Lady Bulls" (Oxymoron!)
Or Bullettes? I'm certain they wouldn't like the cow implication... Looks like maybe they just ignored the gender issue - which is likely the best choice!

I'm not going to badmouth Saniya's defense, but I'll tell you that Williams is a load. She's a shorter version of Jewell Loyd--quick, fast, athletic, and accurate.
