Great news!
His win total is going to be out of sight as this contract expires.
Love to hear how enthusiastic he is about these next few years I agree!

I'd think that would help recruits that have been wondering about his longevity. The 2025/2026 recruits would have him all 4 years.
Come on Somfai, you know what you want.

And love that the UConn president announced it. Hardly always the case with a coach. But he's a lot more than that...

I honestly think this is the whole point behind the extension and the announcement: when you're "a certain age", that will be used against you during recruiting. Other programs will say, "well, I know UConn is UConn, but, Geno is over 70. Do you really think he'll still be coaching when you're a junior or senior?" I would expect recruits to seriously consider that - and, this extension is a clear indication that Geno and the university are planning to be around a bit. I'm sure that he can leave whenever he wants to, but, he doesn't want to, yet.

I don’t share the joy. A Hall of Fame coach that deserves all the praise but I was hoping for change and he would leave after Paige’s run. Records attained because you coached for 40 years and $5.00 get you a cocktail at Happy Hour.
Change ….new blood. That would be a good thing b

What a stupid post.

Well, that's OK, Mulligan. Every pond needs a pickerel or two....I am just thrilled about the 5 year extension!! This will be a great run, if the injury hex is over.

This last sentence in the UConn release will be much talked about in the fall. Will it? I kind of suspect ESPN will treat it as an "in other news". Yes, my cynic hat is quite firmly planted upon my head.

Yes, my cynic hat is quite firmly planted upon my head. If things work out UConn will have a Juggernaut* and lots of early season "marquee" games. Despite UConn's history of missing 1 FF in the last 15+ years this will be hyped as a "comeback" year for both Geno and the program and that's how ESPN will play it. * The word juggernaut comes from the Hindi 'Jagannath' meaning 'lord of the world'. The word is further derived from the Sanskrit 'jagati' meaning 'he goes' and 'natha' meaning 'master'.

This is why news coverage done like in the past is ending. Why wait for someone to tell you what was said when you can see and hear it all from the source.

11:30 The NIL stuff (for recruiting these freshmen) never came up. We've obviously going to take care of you, but it's not the first thing with these kids.
13:30: No more additions unless some 6'5" Croatian calls us up.
14: Brags about UConn baseball....
16:15: had to sign my contract before Danny does his, because there won't be anything left. :-)
17: Clark going through the growing pains of being a pro basketball player. But she's also being targeted. But Geno's wrong about Jordan: he was definitely targeted.
