One thing I've noticed about Olivia as well as Lara Somfai is that when receiving the ball in the post how quickly they pass it back out if a teammate is open. No hesitation, no looking around, as soon as they touch it if someone else is open the ball is on it's way to them, with some mustard on it. It's almost like they are a half second ahead of everyone else and could see what was going to happen before they got the ball. Not a one time thing either, they both did it multiple times. The really crazy thing is, Olivia still has TWO more years of high school.

Does it bother anyone that Somfai was badly outplayed by the Spain center, Sara Okeke, in Australia's loss on Friday ?
Okeke went for 28 points on 13 of 19 shooting. While Somfai had 10 points on 1 of 11 shooting from the field.

Makeer is a 6-1 wing out.... who is one of the biggest risers in her class.... all the way up to No. 6. Makeer included Duke, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina and South Carolina in her list....
“It’s been my dream school ever since I was a kid,” she said about UConn. “Them reaching out and wanting me to be part of their team has been kind of shocking, but at the same time, not really. They just make pros and that’s what attracts me to UConn...." “I like North Carolina and so does my family,” she said — Michigan State has built the best relationship with her while South Carolina can provide the prestige of playing for a top program.
She also attends Crestwood Prep in Toronto — Aaliyah Edwards’ alma mater.

Canadian who "plays at IMG Academy in Florida.... 6-1 out of Toronto...a big, athletic scoring guard. ESPN’s Shane Laflin wrote that she has a “world of potential” but has to improve her consistency and defense to get there.
UConn is one of eight teams in the race for Prawl alongside Baylor, Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Tennessee.

These three plus Kelis and Gandy make five. This does not include Jazzy Davidson, who I would think is the #1 target for the Huskies since she recently put them in her top six after Geno's new contract. According to ESPN she is the #3 prospect, Makeer 6, Prawl 15 and Somfai 31. If everyone who is eligible and healthy comes back for 2025-26, and you include Kelis and Gandy, well that leaves two spots for 4 players. I can see the pressure from both sides. For the players, what do they do? Do they commit now before someone else beats them to it? From UCONN's side, they have quite a few offers out there, they can't take them all and they have a pecking order. They've already got a PG and Center committed, Jazzy is a no brainer and Lara is a big forward who can play inside and out and fits the system perfectly. I always wondered, what if someone further down on the wish list wants to commit but your holding out hope that someone higher on your list will pick you? What do you tell the players? Let me think about it? Can't give them a flat no, they're the backup plan in case the ones you really want pick someone else. I don't think I'd enjoy this part of the job much.

There's a lot to consider. I think Geno always takes any he has offered. Of course, with a couple of exceptions he has always had extra scholarships to burn. No. Nor did it bother me when on the men's side Purdue's Edey scored 37 and had 10 rebounds vs Klingan haivng 11 and 5 in which he couldn't stay on the court much as well with foul trouble. Also, looking at Hoopgurlz she is the 2nd highest player rated in her class that is 6'4 or above and there is no one 6'3. So, if Geno contnues to recruit her in which we already will have Jr Ice, Sophs Jana and Sarah (and maybe a someday a healthy Ayanna) then this suggests he likes many things within her game. I think she has some terrific long-term promise as a potential future pro and a quality UCONN player. Not saying she will be. Just saying She has some very good attributes. |

2027 from Dan Connolly, paid, I think, so edited. UConn is one of 12 teams that made the cut for 2027 wing Lauren Hassell. The Clarksville, Tennessee native revealed her list over the weekend, which included Alabama, Baylor, Clemson, Duke, Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina, Providence, Rutgers and Vanderbilt alongside the Huskies. A notable omission on that list: The Tennessee Vols.
Rated as the No. 11 player in her class by ESPN, Hassell is a 6-3 wing who plays for Clarksville Christian High School and Tennessee Sol on the AAU circuit. She visited Storrs during the Huskies’ First Night festivities last October
