Slice Up Otto the Orange!!!! Originally, the Syracuse mascot was a Native American character named "The Saltine Warrior" because Syracuse's unofficial nickname is the Salt City. He was named "Big Chief Bill Orange” until the late '70s when Native American students petitioned the university to change. During the 1978 season, the University introduced a Roman gladiator dressed in orange armor, but the idea proved largely unpopular among fans, who regularly booed the mascot. In the 1980s, a new Syracuse University mascot emerged and was described by Sports Illustrated as a "juiced-up, bumbling citrus fruit from which two legs protrude", and quickly became popular on campus. Otto was recognized as the official mascot of Syracuse University in 1995. In 2016, Otto was named in the top-10 mascots in college football by SI. In the same year, Otto was ranked No. 1 mascot in the ACC by ESPN. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_the_Orange

My Mother (and most of the rest of my family) went to SU. And she used to sing a song with the words "The Saltine Warrior is a big, bold man, and his weapon is a pigskin ball!"

Dan Connolly By the Numbers: By the numbers 29 — UConn has advanced to the last 29 Sweet Sixteens. The last time the Huskies didn’t get to the regionals was 1993.
2 — UConn has only lost twice in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
30 — The Huskies’ win over Jackson State was their 30th of the season. They’ve won at least 30 games 26 times in program history.
658 — Nika Mühl enters Monday’s game with 658 career assists, two short of setting the all-time program record.
27 — Paige Bueckers has scored at least 27 points in all four of UConn’s postseason games so far.

UConn weekly is free by subscription, so I'm quoting Megan Gauer liberally here:
Fair...averages 22.3 points per game (which ranks ninth nationally) and is a three level scorer with a knack for the clutch moments. Despite having the ball in her hands at such a high frequency, she still ranks among the top 10 percent nationally in points per play (0.97). ... Additional names to know Georgia Woolley: Woolley is the Orange’s second leading scorer at 13.7 points per game, and the only player other than Fair to average double figures. She also averages 3.0 assists (second to Fair’s 3.5) and 1.9 steals per game.
Alyssa Latham: Latham anchors Syracuse’s inside presence, leading the Orange with 7.0 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game. The 6-foot-2 freshman isn’t a consistent scorer but is capable of being a solid secondary option...
Keys to the game for the Huskies Contain Fair: ... Fair is undersized at 5-foot-5, making her a good defensive assignment for Nika Mühl. Look for Mühl to frustrate her, but she’ll need to stay out of foul trouble while doing so.
Clean up on the glass: Syracuse ranks fifth nationally in offensive rebounding rate....
Get the ball inside: Syracuse’s perimeter defense is strong, ranking second in the ACC by holding its conference opponents to 28.4 percent shooting from beyond the arc. While that could frustrate UConn’s guards, Aaliyah Edwards will have the talent and size advantage in lane. ....

We should also note Lexi McNabb, Kia Nurse's cousin (and daughter of NFL player Donovan McNabb).

Despite her being a bit out of control on that left-handed layup, KK playing much better tonight. Need her!

So it seems like Nika with her one assist is tied with Moriah now.

I'm still basking in the afterglow of the Tennessee game. I like how we started this game. Syracuse is not going to continue to shoot 100% on 3's. When they cool off, the Huskies will pull away.
