I was watching the NIT championship game (which Seton Hall won with a wild ending) and saw it reported on the crakl line.
I was never a big fan, but I felt bad for her at LSU which didn't seem like a good fit.
I hope her next home works out better, but if her goal was to get a ring, I don't see that happpening.

Agree about the fit. I suspect her goal was to prove she is a PG, and then ride off into the W. She couldn't even keep that role at LSU. Her best moments were at the two slot even there. That LSU v Iowa game probably set her back, too.

Both she and Jeff would have been way better off if she had stayed at Louisville.

Not going to be easy rebuilding herself now.

Not going to be easy rebuilding herself now. She was barely a pro prospect as a shooting guard at Louisville. Her stock has really dropped. She is just not good enough for the W.

I have to be honest, and the voice of uncomfortable and uncharacteristic negativity. I suspect we will see one or more transfers from UConn this off-season. So very much talent on this team and only so many minutes. These days kids don't necessarily want to "wait their turn" and the portal makes it much easier to leave. Should that happen, each and every player will have my uber respect and appreciation for their time at UConn. For helping keep their teammates positive during so many hard times, and being a part of a very special team. Once a Husky, always a Husky. Now, my feelings may change if they go to LSU, Notre Dame, South Carolina or Tennessee.

I am not feeling good about Q or Ayanna for next year. I fear the portal. Don't know why, but I do. I hope they stay and continue to develop here.

Q posted a response to Sarah's response "Yeah, let's go!!!" with blue hearts. I would be shocked if she leaves. No real feel about Ayanna. If I had to guess, I would say the most likely will be Ines and Amari.

Logically, there may be a few UConn players who feel that the competition for playing time will be wild next season, and maybe it would be better for everybody if they got a fresh start with a new team and make a little more room for the other UConn players to shine. I'm not inclined to speculate on specific names, but I do think there's a possibility of transfers with no hard feelings.
Otherwise, we might see hockey substitutions next season.

Someone in response to Sarah's announcement astutely noticed that the UConn jersey Sarah's was wearing has '21' which is Ines uniform number. Maybe coincidental, but I have a strong hunch Ines will be entering the portal. And it would make sense for her. She was not in the mix after the first NCAA Tournament game. With Paige coming back and the talent coming in, Ines may choose to go where she would get more playing time.

Of course, UConn still has an offer out to Emely Rodriguez for next year....

I don't like seeing any husky go "wild" but Ines might make more sense. I doubt Amari would leave for just one year. Who's to say?
Once a husky, always a husky.

I think Ines's career might be better served if she got playing time somewhere else. But she does get lots of playing time over the summer with her national teams, so maybe she feels that's sufficient. She's a great teammate and might feel very comfortable at UConn.

Moved all the Amari posts to the dedicated thread about her entering the portal.
It is okay to start a separate thread for any UConn players that enter the portal dedicated to that player.
Let's keep this thread for non-UConn players.

Well, I'm sure one of them said that, they're were a lot of them. That opens up a spot for Emily Rodriquez if she wants it. What do you guys think, would Geno take another to make it 15? I say yes if it's a big. 15 is a lot, but as we found out 14 wasn't enough so theirs's that.

I hope we fill both of the vacated spots. We lose two starters who were two of our most durable players. And we still have a lot of players with injury histories. You hate to plan for "failure" but the risk of ending up only 6 or 7 deep is real. What are the biggest needs? It is tough to say due to the unknowns. Will Ayanna finally live up to the hype? Will Ice take a big step forward? Geno didn't seem to be super happy with her this year. How good will Jana be? Will Strong and Ziebell be immediate contributors? Will Aubrey, Azzi, Jana, Paige, Ayanna and Ice stay healthy?
I think the biggest unknown is the low post. And, maybe, get another shooter if a good one is available like the men did with Cam. But, overall, I think it would be a good idea to get some proven, healthy, bodies...just in case...knock on wood.
Two names to throw out there are Caitlin Weimar and Kaitlyn Chen.

That is so not true. Even if you think EVERY player with an injury history will be injured again during the season, that numbers is really only 5. History to me is more than one season with an injury. And only Paige, Azzi, Caroline and Aubrey fit that description. Of players that missed time last year, Ayanna and El Alfy had one injury and one season that was impacted. So, in my mind only 4 players with serious injury problems over multiple season will be on the roster. Paige already has made her comeback. Aubrey had the one knee injury. She already came back from her back issues. That leaves Azzi and Caroline as what you called "injury histories with risks" this coming season. In order to get to only 6-7 available players, UConn would have to have 6-7 injured players. Even last season it was "only" 5. Sorry that the past few season has made you so worried about that continuing. The odds are really against that happening again. Sorry if this comes off harsh. I don't mean it that way. Stay positive!!! UConn is due for some injury luck for sure!

Nice summary of the portal: NCAA Transfer rulesAs an aside, I read once that technically the portal is always open, and when people refer to it being open they really are referring to the window in which sitting out a year is not required. The link discussion doesn't quite agree with that, clearly stating that you can "enter the NCAA transfer portal only during specified time windows" It appears that entering the portal doesn't automatically eliminate any future scholarship, but it does give the school the ability to rescind it. It's my impression that historically, scholarship offers were technically for the upcoming season, with future seasons not guaranteed but virtually always implied (subject to meeting obvious standards). My recollection is that at least one conference codified in writing that a scholarship offer should be for the entire college career as a default, and I'm guessing that the formal portal rules override that rule.

Stay positive!!! UConn is due for some injury luck for sure! The risk of re-injuring an ACL or Achilles is not zero. I believe Aubrey re-injured the same knee she injured in high school. Same for Azzi. They are all at elevated risk. And there are the other unknowns I mentioned. We lost two starters and two bench players that barely played. Two were post players, two were point guards. We are adding three freshman. Two are l8kely to play decent minutes. One may not. None of them are considered post players but Strong might be able to play the 4. Also, we need depth. We need it to have a chance at beating SC and we need it to avoid playing anyone for more than 35 minutes and wearing them down. We thought we were in good shape this year and we weren't. There are just too many risks and too many unknowns. I hope we fill at least one slot. SC and Stanford will be going after post players. Let's beat them to the best one available. It gives us depth and it keeps a good player out of their hands.

I hope for Azzi and any other players with repeated knee injuries to the same knee they consider playing with a knee brace. I understand it may be uncomfortable, but if it adds stability to the joint, I am all for it.
