Pounce on the Pirates!!! Former nicknames include the “White & Blue,” “Villagers,” and in the case of the baseball team,“The Alerts” prior to 1931 when Seton Hall adopted its current title “Pirates." The nickname "Pirates" came from a Worcester (MA) sportswriter who during a Seton Hall-Holy Cross baseball game noted that the Setonia Nine played like “…a bunch of Pirates…” The nickname caught on and was popularized from that point forward. Because this is Women's CBB, I thought we should also recognize that Seton Hall is named for Mother Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first American-born saint and the aunt of Bishop James Roosevelt Bayley who was the actual founder of the university. Mother Elizabeth lived a pretty remarkable life: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Ann_Seton He's our stolen treasure! doggydaddyuconn.blogspot.com/2024/01/doggys-uconnseton-hall-pregame-report.html

A couple of Dan's "by the numbers" today are interesting:
8 — Aaliyah Edwards needs eight points to become the 28th player in program history with 1,500 career points.
1,316 — Walsh Gymnasium is the smallest venue UConn will play in this season with a capacity of 1,316. Even John Gray Gymnasium — where the Huskies played during the Cayman Islands Classic — reported a crowd of 1,650 during their contest vs. Kansas.

Walsh Gymnasium. Worse than most high school gyms. Is there still a stage at one end?

I think Geno is absolutely on target with Q. He's managing her perfectly:

Won't get to see much, if any, of the game tonight. Hoping someone posts highlights/complete game.

Won't get to see much, if any, of the game tonight. Hoping someone posts highlights/complete game. I'm in the opposite camp. I get to see the game tonight, after living vicariously through the game threads and ESPN gametracker, for the past few games. I was out of the country, many time zones out of sync, with meager internet, so, I'm fired up to see the gang play.

I'm optimistic about being able to watch. Currently on Jet Blue Boston to SF streaming SNY via my directv account to my phone and it's working over their wifi. Hopefully it still will be in an hour!

14-9, Hall, at the 5 minute mark. Quite a physical game, and, of course, SH is shooting way above their normal weight.

I think my SNY is over a minute or more behind the live action. EDIT: 37 seconds behind

23-21, Hall, after 1. Hall shooting 80% from outside the arc. Some of those have been tightly contested, too... That will certainly not keep up

33-27 Huskies, halfway through the second. Although I've been following the game threads and game tracker the past 3 games, I've not seen Ice since 12/31 - and, she simply doesn't look like the same kid. She's far more decisive in her movement, and comfortable at both ends of the floor.

Couple of unfortunate fouls called when replay showed nothing to call. One kicked ball called a bad pass.... SH started absolutely blazing ... and a 5 point UCONN lead.
