In Washington DC on 11/18/23 @ the Washington Mystics Arena. Not mentioned is that the seating capacity there is less than 4500.....

I don't understand. Is this some special game, like the HOF games or Jimmy V classic? Neither team's fans are likely to travel to DC so what's the deal?

If my bartender mixes my drinks strong enough tonight, I'll ask that sneaky little Leprechaun I sometimes debate: 'hey, what's all of this about'? I have no clue.... ....and the little twerp still owes me a pot o' gold??

I understand SCar V NDame in Paris. "Good of the game" stuff. DC just seems odd considering they are both midwest schools.
Why not play a "Field of Dreams" game in a corn field on the border between the two states?
Edit: I just saw "Shamrock Classic". What came first, the opponents or the name of the game?
ESPN sponsors neutral site OOC games like the Hall of Fame games. Is this one? These games must fall outside of contractual team/conference TV rights, I think. I wonder what the teams get? Travel expenses for sure, but maybe a nice check too?

Wasn't sure where to put this so I decided to extend this thread about ND. Did anyone watch their football game yesterday ? The definition of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Ohio St moved the ball down the field 65 yards in the last 1:25 of the game to run it in with 00:01 second left on the clock. The ND football forums are surprisingly uniform in their reaction. Most ND fans were expecting something to go wrong ! It was a gut wrenching loss.

Seemed every play on that last drive was "under further review" or needed the chains for a measurement. I'm no OSU fan, but I do appreciate the beauty of an Irish loss (mumble a little and there's almost a pun there)

I was sort of rooting against both teams. But a great game.
I had thought of posting during it, just to stir the pot about refereeing. Not that it was bad. Just that there could have been maybe 25 more PI or holding calls on passing routes that weren't called. The refs decided to let them play unless there was an egregious foul that demonstrably interfered with the catch. Both teams appeared to be fine with that level of permitted contact. That part was actually good reffing.
But as swash said, a lot of "under review" calls about other stuff. But mercifully short ones: maybe they've accelerated the review process, sort of how MLB has accelerated baseball and how professional tennis now has a shot clock for serves?

My reaction to the game was "huh". What inspiration produced this oddity.

Yes, it was wonderful watching them lose.....and in such a manner, made it even better. (if only it had been Michigan or any other B10 team, one can dream)
