Or is it dumbest and dumberer.....
Stwainfan - "I think just Based on talent. Tennessee might give UConn the best game. Having Mercedes back adding Diamond and Cooper , Jones also back. If this team stays healthy they can be really good."
And DaddyChoc liked the post.

Daddy has always seemed to get a little weak at the knees at the sight of talented players in orange - and, there is some talent there. Mind you, much of it has underperformed thus far in their college career, whether due to injury, coaching or over-estimation by the high school rating poobahs. Talent-wise, Tennessee might be an Elite Eight program or better, but, you don't win on talent. You need to add performance, coaching, and physical durability/conditioning, all of which has been somewhat lacking for many years now in Knoxvull.

Stwainfan is a broken record of declarative sentence fragments. Very typical refrain for him.

I wonder what Stwainfan thinks about LV's holding grudges and not passing the ball to each other ?

I wonder what Stwainfan thinks about LV's holding grudges and not passing the ball to each other ? What did Holly think she would gain from sharing that little tidbit about the juvenile conduct on her team? As a coach wouldn't you be all over that around day 2 and sit the B***h if she didn't comply? Or was she just illustrating a point with a trace or more of hyperbole?

I have to get ahold of the original quote but I agree with you about mentioning it in an interview. Absolutely nothing to gain and it raises more questions than it answers. And it doesn't reflect well on her players while bringing into question who exactly is running the team.

Was I dreaming or did Linkster post, on tob, parts of an interview that is also on volnation (Warlick speaks at the Rotary Club Luncheon). It seems to have disappeared from tob ! You can still see some of the quotes on volnation. The one that Linkster referred to was something to the effect of female players holding grudges and not passing the ball to a teammate who they had a problem with while male players can play effectively with players they don't like. It was taken from a premium content source and I'm considering joining just to read the full quote. Help me on this Rocky. Did you see that thread too ?

Here it is.
Holly Warlick knew many of the people she was entertaining Tuesday as the guest speaker at a Rotary Club luncheon at the Knoxville Marriott.
The Tennessee women's basketball coach shook hands and shared stories before and after her presentation. And with the microphone in hand, she reminded everyone that she's also well acquainted with the expectations for her program.
"If we don't get to the Final Four, you all think we've had a bad year," said Warlick, who's entering her fourth season as head coach. "And I get that. I do get that."
Despite losing three seniors, Warlick previewed the 2015-16 Lady Vols as experienced and talented. The team's first official practice is Wednesday.
"I was telling our staff we're going to do everything we can do to not get in the way," she said. "If we're trying to over coach, we're in trouble."
In the next breath, Warlick shifted to an accompanying topic that was prioritized after last season, namely leadership. While appearing on WNML's "News Sentinel Sports Page" radio show, assistant coach Dean Lockwood followed the same script, acknowledging the team's talent, but also addressing leadership in saying, "it's maybe our most non-defined (team) in terms of who the leaders are."
During her presentation, Warlick mentioned three players — senior Bashaara Graves, junior Jordan Reynolds and redshirt junior Andraya Carter — as having the most responsibility in leading.
"Those three young ladies have their work cut out for them," Warlick said. "Those three have to step up and do the right things. It's hard."
She alluded to a team component of this challenge as well. The Lady Vols spent the past two days doing a series of boot camp-like exercises called "the Program." The regimen was created in 2008 by Marine Eric Kapitulik and has been marketed as a way to forge better team leadership and cohesion. The Tennessee softball team has done it.
The Lady Vols spent several hours in the pool Tuesday, beginning at 5 a.m.
"Four kids couldn't swim," Warlick said. "I tell you, four kids didn't sleep last night."
Warlick apparently doesn't want to sleep on whether the players trust each other.
"That's hard; that is hard for women," she said. "Guys, they can get mad at each other. They can fight. Now women, we get mad at each other and I'm not speaking to her for a month. And I'm not throwing her the ball. I know it's crazy. We have to develop that trust in each other."
Warlick included herself in the objective by saying the new four-quarter game format likely will require her to substitute more often.
"We're going to have to play a lot more people," she said. "I'm going to have to get my trust level up."
On other topics, Warlick had a humorous take on the program's commitment to academics and players earning degrees.
"As women, we have to be self-sufficient," she said. "Now I tell them if you find a rich man and you marry him, that's a bonus."
Warlick also offered an edgy preview of the team's style of play:
"Sometimes, we get accused of playing dirty," she said. "Basketball is a contact sport and we're going to make contact."
Not directly indicting her present club as I originally thought it might. Still, it must have happened somewhere in her basketball experiences. She does say that they have to develop trust which implies that they don't have any enough trust presently.

What I am hearing is this group of Vol players share a common problem with those in the last 5-6. It's just a group of players. Not a team. When Holly singles out 3 players to be leaders and acknowledges it is hard, that ain't helping. News flash: 3 years in if you are not yet a leader you ain't gonna be!

I did read about it on Volnation but the only one worried was LVJeff who didn't like Holly saying she would have to play more players. I don't blame him.
Holly pretty much threw her entire team from last year under the bus. What players let being mad at someone impact their passes? Unbelievable for a top level division I team. Maybe in the 7th grade that works when a part time coach is helping her daughters team. But Holly? Are you kidding me? How do you let that happen?
"The Lady Vols spent the past two days doing a series of boot camp-like exercises called "the Program." The regimen was created in 2008 by Marine Eric Kapitulik and has been marketed as a way to forge better team leadership and cohesion."
Tennessee is like a heavy person who tries every fad diet there is. First it was the Perretta Diet Plan, now it is "the Program". What a crock.
The difference between Geno and almost every other coach is that he recruits players what would NEVER act that way to her teammates. And he won't compromise his standards on that no matter how talented the player.
I'm sure you all will find examples of where I am wrong about Geno....lol. But it's my story and I'm sticking to it!

He's either a baiter, or the dumbest sports fan I have ever encountered. I tried to use his syntax in my Monty python reply. I suspect you're right. He didn't get it. RV posted this - "But what about teamwork and trusting each other ? This from Holly's interview at the Rotary Club luncheon. "That's hard; that is hard for women," she said. "Guys, they can get mad at each other. They can fight. Now women, we get mad at each other and I'm not speaking to her for a month. And I'm not throwing her the ball. I know it's crazy. We have to develop that trust in each other." Evidently, Holly has had some interesting experiences as a head coach.
And STwain's response was this - "haha yes there can be some interesting experiences. I think the game against Texas will be a good gauge. As to where this team is. I think this team as they did in Italy. Will be able to play different lineups. It will be interesting to see how the lineups are. There could be four guards and Mercedes for example."
So, yes, I think he is dumb as a rock.

There is no way Holly will be renewed after her contract (now extended) runs out. This interview is like saying "OK, you heard it here first: I'm an idiot and have no idea how to coach." Unbelievable.

There is no way Holly will be renewed after her contract (now extended) runs out. This interview is like saying "OK, you heard it here first: I'm an idiot and have no idea how to coach." Unbelievable. There is a theory among some Tenn fans that the administration wants to deemphasize women's ball and Holly suits them to a T. I'm not a fan or a subscriber - little paranoid. They did give her a raise and a 1 year extension a little bit ago. The 1 year is odd, so maybe some specific goals are attached to it. And semper she has said stupider stuff, generally in postgame pressers, and it didn't seem to hurt her. Month and a half into the season: 'we haven't started to work on offense yet', month later 'we're going to have to go back to working on defense' ....

Holly isn't very polished in an interview but her results as a coach aren't that bad. She has won or tied for either the SEC title or else won the SEC tournament every year she's been the head coach. She's also made it to the regionals every year so as far as results she's in the top 16 or 8 each year. Her problem is she is following a legend. The truth is that she hasn't done any worse than Pat in her last 3 years and in some respects better. But no mere mortal ever looks good compared to a deity.
Holly's problem is the the Pollyanna expectation level among the LV faithful. They talk up their team every October and lament their bad luck and the underhanded tactics of their opposition every April. So far they have been very patient with Holly's "failure" to get them to the promised land. A lot of that is due to the fact that she lies within the umbra of Summitt's aura. I expect that will protect her forever.
As a coach I'll admit I didn't have much of an opinion of her up until last year. But I thought she got a lot out of that squad. Last year's LV's were the first in many years that played as a team. And I have to give a lot of the credit to Holly.
Now if only she'd stop dressing like she's singing in a barbershop quartet after the game.
