Maybe Clemson promised her major playing time and major looks on offense. Just prove yourself as a freshman and then LSU and South Carolina will bid even more for your sophomore services. That strategy may be why this year's #1 recruit will be playing for Southern Cal. That's so cynical I'm surprised I didn't post it. High praise, indeed! The sad thing is that it's not even cynical anymore. College sports is now so explicitly (rather than implicitly) driven by profit--personal and institutional--that these strategies are entirely reasonable. In the "real world," my own kids and my students take jobs short-term--hopscotch around every couple of years to leverage previous pay and experience. College is now pretty explicitly a job for top D-1 athletes and I'm betting is treated similarly.

Juste Jocyte is not on the list for either 2024 or 2025. Or 21, 22 or 23. Either she is not nearly as good as I thought or she turned pro.

To recapitulate 2024: we have Morgan and Allie for sure. We have offers out to Justice Carlton and Sarah Strong. We are in Justice's final 5 We are following Roberson, and my fingers and toes are all crossed. Folks are pining for Koval, though do we know if we've even offered? My (mere) speculation is that by suddenly following Roberson and recruiting Gandy it means that Koval has already indicated UConn's not in the running.

Clara Silva, at 6'6", was a top Portuguese player in the FIBA U-18 team. Wondering whether Ines will be trying to recruit her. www.fiba.basketball/europe/u18women/2023/playerstatswww.fiba.basketball/europe/u18women/2023/player/Clara-SilvaAs it stands, there aren’t many top-center prospects in the 2025 class. As a result, many schools are doing all they can to land this skilled phenom from Portugal. According to multiple sources, North Carolina, Tennessee, UConn, Maryland, and Virginia Tech are all hot on the trail of Silva.theballout.com/2023/07/clara-silva-womens-basketball-recruiting/Bigs status: Gandy is signed for 2 years out. For next year, Roberson is being followed. Silva is rumored. Koval is up in the air, with no indication of interest for UConn. Gandy may have been preferred to Silva, or Silva might not want to come. Roberson is probably more a 4/5 than a true 5.

In 2025, I want sienna Betts.
To me it would be righting a wrong. It’s fine if people don’t agree. But that’s how I feel.
If we are getting a big in 2024, it is Roberson that I covet.

Betts is likely finished growing (women usually stop at around 14) at 6'3". But she plays very big. What wrong needs righting? That her sister didn't choose UConn? I agree on Roberson. She's the one I most covet, too. But I'm greedy: I want a true post as well. I see Roberson as a overmatching 4, like Kevin McHale.

For this year imo it is Sarah Strong. With her, Cheli and Ziebell, they are all different but extremely talented. These three would be an amazing class. Arguably Strng is the best player in the class. Ziebell is not far behind in terms of that possibility but without a doubt the best shooter and expectation is that she will be an elite scorer. And Cheli was one of the players mentioned as having among the greatest jump from last year to this year - her versaitlity appears off-the-charts.

Here's one we DIDN'T offer. A very good 6'1" guard, class of 2025. Academically accomplished. I think her folks are doctors. It'll be interesting to follow her and see where she does land up. If it's Harvard, Yale, or Columbia, it'll be a lot, lot tougher to get pro-ready, if that's what she wants. Surprisingly, no Princeton on the list, which, I would have thought, would have had a chance. North Carolina and Duke might be the "just right" schools for her.

I REALLY want a true post, if possible. But remember, we have Jana!!!! She needs to be factored into all this.

But I don't think she's a true post. :-) The big cheese post out there is Koval. No one has the faintest idea what she's going to do. Have to wait until November.

bulkey if we start posted about recruits we didn’t offer in the recruit offers thread…. Well you know lol. so very true. the number of her offers attracted me, and then there is this barbell of top national academic schools and more regional schools. An interesting kid, and I actually wondered why we didn't offer her. I'm betting she gets into the top 25 by next year.

Now that's a great post prospect. 2026. Just dye her hair purple and she reminds me of you-know-who. But probably further along already. Word has it that a teammate has already accepted UCLA, which has offered her as well. Perfect time for her to slide in just after Betts. Fingers crossed for us!

The 2024 class just became a lot better since ElAlfy became a part of it due to her injury. She'll have 4 years of eligibility if she chooses to use them all. The addition of Strong would put it in the elite category.

wbbblog.com/uconn-womens-basketball-recruiting/Again, I always think this is a useful site. We have 3 spots open for 24/25. We probably have some high quality offers out. Strong, Carlton. My guess is Uconn is probably satisfied with 12 if they don't hit on any of the remaining targets.
