With Alfy and Ice, Ayanna and Amari we have a solid core of bigs already for a while. We also have some length with Cheli and Qadence for the 4 potentially. There may even be a preference for fast, athletic bigs for the 4. Sometimes defending the pick and roll is an issue with huge lumbering bigs. I think we should just focus on the top bigs like Koval and stay put with the rest. Agree that best are bigs who are mobile and can play within Geno's offensive and defensive schemes. Hard for some bigs to ever play man-to-man.

I don't remember hearing that Koval has made even one visit to Storrs. If that is true then it's time to face reality. She's made multiple visits elsewhere and travelled a lot further to visit other schools. I don't think we can draw any conclusions at all from visits. We have no idea what she's done under the radar or what she's got planned, since Storrs is so much closer and easier to get to than most of the other schools she's obviously considering.

I mentioned earlier that I don’t know who we are targeting. And the reason I feel that way I think is because our recruiting seems really quiet. Makes me wonder if we should expect a player or two to use a covid year… 🤔

That's my point. Cheli flew across the country unofficially. Koval could have attended a game easily but she didn't. Has Geno even gone to see her play? Brady has 4 years of eligibility and so does El Alfy. I realize that some posters put a lot of stock in height but is being an inch or two taller direct evidence of superiority?

I still think El Alfy is a perimeter player.

She doesn't have to use the summer to get to Storrs. She can get over there whenever she wants, and even watch a game. Comparing her to the actions of Cheli or to any other potential recruit is, candidly, meaningless. They each do it their own way. Just ask Stewie. My only point is a Montaignean skepticism: we just don't know. Or as Wittgenstein said: "what we don't know, we must pass over in silence." And don't you think that Montaigne and Wittgenstein know a helluva lot more about WCBB than we?

I still think El Alfy is a perimeter player. Still think that all you want. But when she committed, her father asked Geno not to have her play exclusively underneath. That sounds like Geno is having her played underneath at least some of the time.

sayvia sellers is the #28 recruit this year and she is going to Washington. This recruit interested me since she went to a school that I attended, Anchorage Christian High School. I don’t know of a lot of stars from Alaska. When you think about it, they probably can’t do as much aau ball as most of these kids. But I am curious about Hays. I maintain an interest in talent from Alaska.

Perimeter player? This first video shows her mostly driving to the basket. The defense she is playing against is just awful.

Man I can't wait to see this kid!!! What are we going to do all these months anyway? I have lots of work to do, but this my only "hobby." I'm going to start to watch some WNBA games.

You can always watch an old Husky game. You might pick a massacre or a tight win. You get to pick the team. Feeling masochistic? You can find enough games to satisfy the most discerning palate. My particular "favorite" loss is Vic and the Shaeferettes, 3/31/17. What a difference a year makes. It's still the game of Vic's career.

I still think El Alfy is a perimeter player. We'll see. Stretch 4 would be reasonable. On this team, I don't think there's room at wing, unless she's a phenom.

No reason not to have 2 4s. Dorka didn't quite get UConn's offense her first year, but she was in there with Liv a bit. After Aaliyah graduates, no reason not to have Ice and Jana playing together. Geno's motion offense is pretty perfect for that: it'd be a true 5-out.

Dorka is the comp that I make for El Alfy. Absolutely right.

I enjoy horse racing and there is a point in the race when you can be pretty certain that the horse you like isn't going to win. While Koval still has a lot of time to come visit it looks like it's not a priority to her.

Dolson took 3's and no one ever called her a wing. El Alfy's future lies in her ability to play inside and a lot of that is just toughness. If she can also play on the perimeter it makes her versatile and increases her chances at having a pro career.

True. But my definition of perimeter player is not Big Mama. She was an exceptional high post passer, and could reliably drain a couple from there, too. But she was a true center at UCONN and remains that in the WNBA.

Dorka is the comp that I make for El Alfy. Absolutely right. Okay. Then it's just a terminology question. If Dorka counts as a perimeter player, we may never see another non-perimeter player in the Geno era.

They are posts that play the high post and can hit long range shots.

Perimeter player? This first video shows her mostly driving to the basket. The defense she is playing against is just awful. It's 5 years old. It's a Jr high game. I think she has an outside shot. In Euro play posts commonly shoot 3's. I'm sure her father wanted to be sure that she wouldn't be expected to be Coutney Paris.

While Koval still has a lot of time to come visit it looks like it's not a priority to her. I just don't draw that conclusion at all. I don't think her summer travel means much, especially in the beginning of June. Where exactly has she visited? and multiple times? I did a desultory social media search and didn't see anything. Certainly, she doesn't seem to be talking herself.

We really have little idea what we are going to get from Jana. It is far more likely that Ice will be more college ready. My hope is that Jana will be our first sub for the bigs. If she achieves at that level she will get a lot of PT.
