At Providence College, I was sitting very, very close to the UConn bench. Walking out, I crossed through the UConn chairs and near where Geno sat, there were a bunch of score cards, like these. I bent down to get them and realized these must be Geno's or maybe one of the other coaches's. I'm thinking the writing is male (sorry for the gender bias) and I wonder why Geno needed to map his players out. I think I'll need a couple of posts to avoid the size limit. this is all that's on them. Sorry for the shadow. just click on them and they will be large and clear. I have more.

Here's a photo of the entire card. Again, click and it will be readable. Each of these cards come from a new moment in time. I have totals from various quarters and from one or two with quarters still in progress. He was getting printouts in pretty much real time.

Good eyes Sherlock. So what is the significance of the numbers next to the playrs' names? They change.

Provided at media timeout and quarter breaks? What about coach's timeouts? As to the players... probably lineups, since it's always five. And the numbers... clearly not jerseys or positions. Plays? Not likely, because each player has a number on most. Hmmmm. Nika first on the list, always first and always 1. Dorka on all lists ... with several different numbers Ayanna listed multiple times ... only non-starter. Leaving further analysis to you as keeper of the cards... what else have you noticed?

I cracked the code! So obvious. it helps to see the entire card (which I didn't post before). The numbers next to the UConn names match the jersey numbers of the PC players they were guarding. Click to enlarge.

So Bulkey, What was going on when Geno was slamming his fist on the scorers table next to the bench? Just curious.

Yes - the score sheets are provided to the coaching staff at each timeout - probably full time outs only due to logistical reasons - at Arizona Aari McDonald that is on-staff typically goes and gets the sheet during timeouts (since she is not a coach, she doesn't have to talk to Adia in the coach's conference). Typically, she gives it to Salvo I think. I have seen someone run one over to the TV announcers, as well. What is neat is they provide them to our row (on the floor) at half time. Very interesting stuff, it includes the +/- as well as the regular stats and is so much easier to read than trying to get them off the scoreboard.
