Was happy to see a competitive game in which UCONN won a bit differently. I especially liked the 19 pts form Aubrey and 9 from Nika. I think most important in terms of team growth and individual growth is for both of these fine players to also look to score. While Nika I'm not looking for near 15-20 per night, but believe her and Aubrey need to keep it going with no fear of taking shots. The Nova game showed that there are games in which both the top 2 scorers can be stopped/slowed down.
And, as a result, I like the idea of playing both even in blowouts in which by end of season one or both will have much more confidence of knocking down shots when the game in on the line.

I don't think Nika lacks confidence - I think she is more concerned with the flow of the game. She will take shots, and Coach urges her to do so sometimes.AS far as playing her "even in blowouts" - she IS the starting point guard and her only back up is Ines who has very limited experience.
I say this as it sounds like you think of her as someone who is not the floor leader, which she certainly is. And she has earned it.

The past couple of games, Aubrey has sunk a pull up 15 footer. This is a huge shot for her, as she needs to learn that it's not "drive to the hoop or nothing." She'll integrate the midrange jumper and sometimes takes 3s (needs more of those also). The major piece of her game that's not there quite yet is initiating from a standstill the move to the basket and then the pull up jumper--what Paige is the master of. I have no doubt Aubrey will develop it. She's just a superb athlete.

Nika is always more concerned about getting her teammates a good shot. Sometimes too focused on that as teams tend to sag off of her on defense. But as long as she takes, and makes, two or three shots a game, she will be a threat. She is the head of the snake. When she struggles to get assists, the team often struggle to score. I love Nika - my favorite player on a team where any player could be my favorite player.

I just don't feel they are confident shooting. I want the world for them both. I even imagine a long WNBA career. But in terms of the team-- you think Nika shoots enough? Maybe she is. I just look forward to each game her shooting more - maybe my wording is wrong about "fear/confidence." VS DePaul she took 2 shots. Had 10 assists and 8 rebounds but 2 shots. Maybe for me I feel she may "settle" for less than what I think she can actually be - and she already is very good. . Anyhow, I love Nika Muhl!!!

That game was fewer than most. She is driving to the hoop a couple of times per game. She's taking a three or two each game. She's even taken a handful of pull up midrange jumpers lately. We'd like 8-10 points per game from her. Mix in a little of each of those every few games so they don't know what's coming. Add in a free throw or two per game. That's enough most of the time. If Lou can't hit and Aaliyah isn't going off, then those are the days we may need a little more from Nika.
