Fantastic, DD!!! Just great with analysis and energy.
Caroline was wearing her ear plugs.
Great thing about their schedule is that they're home for the next 3 games. In the middle game at Providence, but that's not much further away than Hartford (well, maybe a little further).

UConn will have a tough time with SCar without either Fudd or Ducharme. But hopefully they will be back by mid-Feb. Fudd was OK after the game she bumped knees. Taking weight off the knee with crutches may simply be a precautionary measure. I've read nothing about there being any new injury?
With three outstanding outside shooters to rotate UConn's offense would be awesome. They are merely great right now.

Absolutely.
Nika with 40. Every starter with 36 or more.
(Glad they can do it, will be happy when Fudd and Ducharme mean they don't have to)

Dorka is obviously one of the bigs, which she recorded as many assists as Walker who had the most assists for Tennessee. (And more steals than anyone on Tennessee)

I love that comparison (many people have heard me tell the story that Jen got me interested in UConn basketball)

I agree. I watched a few of the games this year and I never really noticed her but she was very impressive last night

Of course, if she IS back fully, the team dramatically improves its chances. OTOH, I sort of hope she and Caroline take the next 4 or 5 months off from basketball.

Jordan Horston is great in the post game presser.

Horston said the UConn posts were very physical. Honesty like that will get you ridden out of Knutsville on a rail. (whatever that entails)

Good job, DD.
An apparent typo (you typed 'Nike' for Nika at one point) led me to an interesting conclusion, which may have come up here many times, but which never occurred to me until just now. Forgive me I'm covering familiar ground here.
In Greek and some Slavic languages the name 'Nika' (and Nicola, Nicholas, Nick etc etc) is ultimately derived from the Greek 'Nike,' the goddess of victory. Many of you will remember the 'Nike of Samothrace' (AKA 'Winged Victory') one of the most famous surviving sculptures from ancient Greece. Thus the name of the sports gear as well.
Nika -- it's an appropriate name for one of the most combative and determined athletes I've ever seen, isn't it?

There is a casting of Winged Victory, along with Venus DeMilo, The Pieta, and many others at the Slater Museum at Norwich Free Academy. They were cast in the 19th century for Samuel Slater, (who made a fortune stealing British manufacturing patents and bringing them back to the US), and shipped back to the US where the ladies of Norwich demanded that fig leaves be added. Castings have long since been prohibited but sure made Greek history come to life when I was in HS. It's quite a display in the Museum and worth seeing if you are into things like that. And a lot cheaper than a tour of European museums.

Thank you. Unfortunately, since I live in the Los Angeles area, Norwich Ct is nearly as remote as Norwich in the UK.
The early colonists weren't the most imaginative place-name inventors, were they? Worcester, Norwich, Richmond, Plymouth, Bedford, Norfolk etc, etc, not to mention New York, New Jersey, New Hampshire, and New England itself.

Beats any of the fakes! BTW, Venus (actually Aphrodite) didn't have a last name "DeMilo." She was found on the island of Melos, so de Milo. I'm removing my obnoxious pedantry hat now....but always keeping it nearby on the ready.

As you may know, the Aphrodite/Venus of Melos stood some 6'8" tall (true!) and is thought to have played a primitive form of basketball against male opponents.
Sadly, the voluptuous, semi-clad athlete was incessantly forced to fend off the unceasing and vigorous, um, hand-checking of opposing players.
So much so that eventually her arms fell off.

Pedantic hat back on. The statue has an extraordinary history that sheds light on cultural and political competition among England (which had the Elgin marbles), Italy (which had the Laocoo"n) and France, which aspired to a similar piece. It is full of intrigue and misdirection.

Neither were the Dutch.....New Amsterdam and numerous other NY towns are Dutch copies.
