I keep seeing this on all the message boards, both Tennessee and UConn.
I just don't see it. Sure they have some players that are long and athletic. But how many?
Starters
Horston - Athletic. Not really long. but she jumps well. Does that make her long? Walker - 5'8". Nope not long. And really not very athletic. Stricklin - 6'3" but not really long and not that athletic. Puckett - She is definately not either one. Darby - Doesn't fit either word.
Bench
Jackson - Maybe the only one that fits. She is long for sure. And pretty athletic Powell - 5'6". She is kinda athletic. Franklin - 6'1" post. But plays bigger. A little long but with her bad knee? Not athletic Hollingshead - 6'5" and very long. Kinda athletic for her size.
So maybe, there are 2-3 long players and a couple of athletic players.
Let's drop that they have long and athletic players that will give UConn trouble.

Compared to Big East opposition, sure. Tennessee is long and athletic.
People were saying the same thing about Nc State prior to that game.

At the start of the season Tenn was expected to once again rely on their paint strength while UConn was a 3-headed hydra when it came to 3pt shooting with Fudd, Ducharme and Senechal. Now, late in January and the Tenn fans are putting it all on their guards while UConn's 3-headed monster is down to Senechal and it's the UConn front court that is shining.
Funny how things go.

I doubt many people could have anticipated this level of improvement from Aaliyah Edwards. Tennessee, I don’t know a lot about how they have started winning games to be honest with you. It seems like Rikea Jackson has played fantastically well off the bench. But I come to that conclusion just based on looking at box scores.

This post from a checkerboard sums up the media's view of UConn:
If you rely on ESPN for UConn analysis then you believe that. But then another fan on the same board posted this rational POV that is close to my own feelings about UConn:

I said that year she reminded me of Nalyssa Smith of Baylor who was a two time AA. She is just fullfilling her promise. Tennessee has been winning games because they have been playing the bottom of an SEC down season conference. Credit for winning but it's really not that impressive.
