Army began their brutal Massacre of Nanjing: www.history.com/topics/japan/nanjing-massacreAs a failed East Asian Scholar; 40-50 years ago, I was surprised by the disdain of the Japanese by people from neighboring countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonisea and even Australia; not to mention China. Japanese occupation was brutal including the Bataan Death March in the Philippines. Australia was never occupied by the Japanese, but the Japanese came fairly close. The Japanese Air Force did bomb Northern Australia some 97 times during 1942-1943 and invaded New Guinea which was then Australian territory. The people who suffered under Japanese occupation have long, tragic memories of what transpired. People in and around the Bataan Peninsula were the angriest and with good reason, although I never did visit Nanjing. www.caniry.com/what-stopped-the-japanese-from-invading-australia/
