From Her Hoops:
"It’s way too early to declare Angel Reese the player of the year. But have you seen her numbers?
The LSU sophomore has powered the Tigers to five easy wins over less-than-taxing competition. The transfer from Maryland is averaging 23 points and nearly 16 rebounds during that stretch, having recorded a double-double in every game so far as the Tigers have yet to score less than 100 points a game. That’s video game type production."
And on and on...you will puke up your cakes....

Well, yeah. Throw a college level player up against middle school level competition (sorry teams they have played, intentional exaggeration) and leaving her in well after the game is decided will artificially pad the stats. Let's see what happens when she goes up against some real competition.

I know, I know..but it's working in the rankings and in the stat sheets. Crazy. I bet more coaches will try it next year.

It's probably the only way to keep the portal people happy.

I couldn't stand it, and sent this reply: Please. Wake me up when LSU plays against even ONE worthy opponent. LSU is a preseason top 15 team, and have played a schedule significantly weaker than any of the patsies they have trounced, most of whom haven't even a remote shot at making their conference playoff brackets, let alone being seeded in the NCAA prom. This exhibition-games-only travesty isn't just an embarrassment, it is a disservice to the game and an insult to the fans. The "best" teams they will face before playing SEC games are in a very weak holiday tournament. The worst part is that Angel is a top quality player, and she and her teammates deserve a chance to earn those accolades. Alas, instead we see the equivalent of that commercial Under 10 game and one team picks Charles Barkley. If the Lakers or Warriors played a few G-League teams, would those games count on their NBA record? Of course not. Meanwhile, look at the LSU starters minutes per game ... even up by a fifty-spot, Angel and the rest are still in there, racking up the counting stats. In such a blowout, any reasonable coach would give the deep end of the bench some audition minutes, and a chance to compete and grow their skills. Maybe Kim simply doesn't care about developing those players. Perhaps her plan is to dump all of these players and collect a new batch of kids someone else has taken time to coach out of the transfer portal again this summer? Unfortunately, articles like this one unintentionally encourage this kind of BS scheduling. You mention the schedule as an aside, when it is the main story. You say she's putting up video-game numbers ... and that's just it. Set the difficulty to zero, turn on Invincibility-Mode and play for a couple of hours. Rah. Bloody. Rah. Comparing those stats to players outside the bayou is the epitome of gaming the system. Spare me the puff-article where Kim says crap like this: 1. "We didn't know we were going to be good." Did you think you'd be in the bottom 10% of all teams in the country? Because that's the games you scheduled. Each dead last in their respective leagues. Each praying for a three-win season 2. "It's hard to make a schedule." Yeah. EVERY team in the country has difficulties with available dates. Is this new to you, Kim?!? There is no excuse for any P-5 or even mid-major program to put out an OOC schedule this putrid.

Excellent.
ESPN may be past saving, but Her Hoops should be better than this.

I've called out Her Hoops Stats before, although their work is usually quite good. Last summer when one of their people - Richard Cohen - wrote a piece chastising Tina Charles for leaving the Phoenix Mercury & for not being a team player; I called him out. I told him he didn't know 1/2 of what was going on @ Phoenix, that he obviously didn't get Tina's side of the story and that he should do a bit more research before smearing a commendable humane being. I never heard back from him, but he didn't block me and he hasn't spoken about Tina again. Of course, a lot more did happen after that ........like Skyller wanting to be traded?

Several year ago Georgia built a 12-0 record with a similar schedule. They were about 19th in the first poll, and like LSU, moved up to 12th or so as teams above them lost games. After that they played under .500 for the rest of the season but still made the NCAA's. The problem with preseason polls like the AP is that once these voters make their lists they are obligated to defend those choices so teams like Georgia and LSU will only slowly slide down the rankings as they lose games despite the fact that they never should have been ranked at all.
I'm wondering how 10 or 12 Tier 3 games will look on LSU's resume?
