Make your pick, then tell us why.

someone else. Bueckers is the team leader. Last year there were 3 seniors but this year she's the top dog. She is a natural leader. She thrives in the role. Some players get the role thrust upon them. Bueckers wants the role badly. And I'll guarantee that Geno will name her captain.

^ well, Paige is not playing this year. I think it is more fun to ponder who will be the on-court alpha dog.
And I am voting for Nika. Because for better or worse, she is the most vocal player on the court. She is also the most expressive. I do see it as a leadership trait. Even with some of the bad fouls in there. Who would be Nika’s lieutenant on the court? I don’t know. Maybe Dorka?

I voted for Lou. A long shot for a newcomer, but "leadership" can mean a lot of things.
It doesn't have to be the most vocal. It can be the person who plays the most essential supporting role. Someone the team counts on to bail it out. Two years ago, no question that Evina was the leader. I see Lou as doing that--and better, actually, because she's not injured. 12 points, 2 assists, & 4 ribbies in 18 minutes.

I voted for Paige. Nika and Azzi come in as a tie for second. I don't see how you can discount Paige. She seems to be doing everything except actually going on the court and loving it too. She is a born coach. I just hope the players are into it as much as she is.

An interesting sub question about which leadership. For the past two seasons, Christyn was the one who would step up and take a shot when others hesitated.
She and Nika were the two most likely to do something to get the team's pulse-rate up with a steal or a rebound amongst the trees or a block on opposing big or an AND-1 or something else that caused the other coach to call a timeout.
Paige ... even when not playing ... was the most vocal and demonstrative in an infectious way. She also has a great sense for when and how to feed someone in a way to break them out of a slump - only when on the court, of course.
Evina was the best one to settle the team after a terrible call or a run by the opposition.
Caroline was the one to send the message that we're not giving up even when we have every excuse.
Azzi was the one to show (but never say) ... C'mon, I will keep us in this game. Don't try too hard, you just need to help.

Can't believe I didn't Title this Alpha "Husky" instead of dog...
That's a missed layup. My bad, Coach.

The Alpha dog (Husky) is The Kid. No doubt. Whether she's on the court or not, doesn't matter. It's her team. (can't believe DoggyDaddy wasn't an option )

I considered only those that would see playing time, though I understand the sentiment about Paige.
I went with Nika. Her fire, passion and energy is always there. Whether she is in the game or on the bench, she is the one who is always the most fired up and encouraging. I watch her on the bench, and there is not a play that she is not vocal and encouraging, offense or defense. She watches everything intently while on the bench, and on the court she is one of the first to pick another player up off the court after a charge, block, dive for the ball, etc. And when she is called for a foul? Well...we know she is ready to bite the officials whistles off every time.

To be honest, I didn’t really consider Azzi or Caroline that much in this poll. But that opinion was based off of what I saw last year. And I think Azzi and Caroline both deferred at times because they were new and because they wanted to show respect to the seniors. I will be interested to see if they lead the way more this season. 👍

I didn't put her on the list because she needs to pay some dues ... show her value on the court, but Amari seems to have leadership qualities in the various clips we see. I think another year (or two) before those will fully materialize on the court.
I intentionally omitted Supergirl. If she were playing, the question would be preposterous and moot.

I voted NIKA, all the way. She's a tough. vocal point guard who has never hesitated in grabbing her teammates and getting in their faces, for good or bad. She's the one.
Remember, she's Supergirl's "slime," whatever the H that means. (LOL)

If I can't practice I watch others play. Basketball is my life". I'm certain that when she can't play she will coach.

But, things change from the age of 13 or so into adulthood and responsibilities and managing money and... It may happen, of course. But I would give her a pass if she changed her mind.

Caroline might be a leader. Seems to get along with everyone. She is holding babies. She is the one in the front taking the panning shot of the entire team. Helped take care of Paige right after her surgery. There are a lot of little things that are starting to add up that make me think she is a leader.
On the court? I expect her to still be pretty quiet. She is more of a “lead by example” type of a player.

I think we will be pleasantly surprised by Dorka's leadership this year. She stayed to win. At the end of the season last year, she was very vocal, very much an inspiration to her team both through her play and leadership. She, in my opinion will be our new "mama" if you will. She is loved by everyone, and Evina truly was an inspiration to her.
