Princeton is "sort of" the Stanford of the East: a lot of entitled kids (eating clubs!) in a super-rich environment. But I begrudgingly admire Princeton. I think it has the finest combination of outstanding research and passionate commitment to undergraduate teaching of any institution that I know personally.
Carla is the perfect fit for this, and is really appealing to academically-motivated kids who likely won't have pro careers but are passionate about their sport. Even if Stanford had recruited her (she's a California kid), she likely wouldn't have got much playing time. But she will at Princeton, and she'll hang with other Ivy Leaguers. Makes all the sense in the world.
I so admire people like Carla and her team who make the most of what they've got. If I lived there, I'd get season tickets.

It is surprising to me that Princeton can beat out those other schools in a basketball recruiting battle. But I just saw that they were the #1 school nationally; so it is no surprise to me that the education is likely a huge factor here.

Well, I don't think they're #1 nationally--whatever that means--because it's all cooked stats. Just ask Columbia, which was #2 until one of its profs blew the whistle on them. But Princeton's a terrific place to get an education, if you're willing to work for one. Bill Bradley measured the shortest distance he needed to walk between classes and to his residence, in order to find the time both to be an All-American and academically accomplished enough to get a Rhodes Scholarship. To get that kind of education and be a D-1 athlete, you really do need to have blinders on.
