Of Hiroshima by a nuclear bomb! Initial casualty estimates ranged from 70K - 150K with unimaginable other injuries and a complete devastation of the entire city. Probably the best source for what actually transpired on the sunny morning is John Hersey's "Hiroshima" which was published in 1946. In it he tells the stories of a few people who experienced the trauma firsthand.
