Technically, the funds are not approved and the progressives are up in arms over building the stadium for "one of the 10 richest families" which I didn't investigate (they are billionaires that own the Bills) and about money not being spent for more important things in their eyes than a sports stadium.
Yes, I get the idea that stadiums benefit the area, but I don't personally want a tax burden to build a stadium. Or ongoing tax breaks for corporations to move to my area (Tucson actually sent a cactus of all things to Amazon to entice them; actually we did get a large warehouse but I don't know what breaks they are enjoying).

If you own a bar, a restaurant, a motel/hotel I can see the benefit, beyond that I guess I lack imagination - a stretch a corporate jet rental.

I'm not sure how I feel about cities paying for stadiums for professional teams. I don't know enough about how the deal is structured or how that sort of arrangement has paid off in other cities.
I think how you look at this depends on how you define corporate welfare. If a city offers a company a tax incentive to relocate and that would bring jobs and attract more businesses is that welfare?
Rocky If I own a bar that gets more business because of a new company in town I am probably going to hire additional employees and I am probably going to pay more taxes.

The problem with the tax incentives is the companies are not always bringing the jobs or attracting other businesses that are "expected". We had one out here, I don't remember the details, but the jobs that they were bringing, quite well paying, were all going to be filled by folks not from here. The actual jobs "bump" for some of the lower level positions didn't (so far as anything I read) make up for the tax breaks, etc.

vtcwbuff that is why I mentioned a bar as something that benefits from the stadium. Then, of course, there are hospital ERs benefits from the bar brawls. Its a knock on effect. Pun absolutely intended.

Also when these brawlers are taken to court and end up with 25 hours of community service, the community benefits. It's all win-win.
