From Her Hoops:
The other recognizable name waived in recent days was Megan Walker, whose WNBA career never really got started in New York or in Phoenix. The Mercury made that move because without releasing somebody (Kia Vaughn was the other realistic option besides Walker), they didn't have the cap room to give a qualifying offer to Kia Nurse. After her ACL injury in the 2021 playoffs, Nurse may well not even play in 2022, but the Mercury clearly felt that retaining her rights was more valuable than holding on to Walker. Still on her rookie-scale contract, there's at least a small chance that someone claims Walker off waivers to give her another chance. This time of year, it now takes five days to clear waivers.

When Walker left early to play for the Lberty, she caught Covid and that put her way behind! She had a few decent moments at Phoenix, but not enough to be assured a roster space on the tight 12 person roster. Even her overseas play in Europe was less than great, and that is typically where WNBA Players excel!?? She might get picked up by another team or offered a training camp contract? If she stays in shape, she can have a decent overseas career in spite of not being in the WNBA! She should have stayed @ UConn gotten her degree and tried the following season in the WNBA? I hope things work out well for her!! There are so many really good DI WCBB Players who never make it in the WNBA? At the same time, there are quite a few good WNBA players who initially struggled making a roster! If she's willing to work assiduously, remains healthy and remains focused; she's someone who might make it at some point in the future! Allie Quigly did exactly that and she's now a 'star'!! Alysha Clark, who won 2 titles with Seattle, also initially struggled; and so too did Sami Whitcomb!!

good to land. Hopefully, that organization will pull it together, but I worry. C.Carter is talented, but who wants to play with her? The org decided to fire the coach and get rid of Courtney Williams. From what little info I read, it sounded like CC was the instigator and prime punk in the fracas, and was calling on teammates to pick a side... back me or we'll never give you the ball ... and other BS. Well, I hope Meg finds an opportunity and makes the most of it

Well, I hope Meg finds an opportunity and makes the most of it I mostly agree with your assessment, but it's somewhat more complicated! Williams had gotten herself into another fight earlier that same season in Atlanta at a food truck and the team had no problem with it; in fact not even mentioning it! Carter saw the blatant double standard and became an even bigger ar$e than she typically is?? To my mind, both Carter and Williams are talented 'problems' with volcanic personalities!! www.tmz.com/2021/10/05/wnba-players-throw-punches-in-wild-brawl-apologizes/

I felt that Megan was unwilling to expand her game at UConn. She needed to be the center 3 point attraction to plump up her stats. In the WNBA she did not offer enough. Can she offer more? We'll see maybe. The oh so tight WNBA roster makes for narrow time to show your stuff.

As you progress from high school to DI to WNBA, it's just increasing levels of difficulty; including in your head / mental!! Gabby Williams is a prime example of how to grow your game and increase your value!

However, it was my perception of Meghan that she did little to grow her game while a Husky and I felt she went into the WNBA likely to pay for her limited game and work ethic.

Yes and this is not a knock on Megan, but Gabby really exceeded expectations @ UConn by playing center against some real giants and doing so exceptionally well!! Even the Mississippi State game where they lost; Gabby jumped center against McCowan and won the tap!! 5' 11" against 6' 7 " and Gabby still won the tap!!! On the down side; however, Gabby didn't expand her shooting range while @ UConn! I attribute that to her wanting to contribute where they most needed help and where she could be a big factor. She played her heart out against many much taller than she, but always did so tirelessly! I still recall the Notre Dame game where she out-played ND's bigs and even an elbow to her Adam's Apple from a certain Mabry!!! Nothing could derail her!! Megan Walker was quite good, but Gabby was bordering on amazing!!
