Discussion among the fans behind me speculating on who will transfer at the end of the season. I minded my own business but I wanted to turn around and yell at them "the season hasn't even officially started and you are talking about transfers?"
We have 14 on the roster.
While some seniors may opt for an additional COVID year, I think it is safe to assume that Christyn, Evina, Olivia and Dorka all leave at the end of the year.
That leaves 10 on the roster, with two coming in for a total of 12.
Assuming Geno can do a sufficient amount of rotation to help develop the players deeper on the bench and find them playing time due to said deep bench I think everyone stays.
14 may be too big. 10 is too small (in my opinion). I take the Goldilocks view "12 is just right".
In any event...the fact that these yahoos are already talking about transfers really ticked me off.
Oh, yeah, they are also readers of another site. Another strike against them...LOL!
They did mention something I did not know. Has Danny K moved out of state? They were talking about him having moved out of state due to illness. Anyone have any news on Danny K?

Aubry won't leave. She's still trying to learn Husky basketball. Do you remember how the summer of her sophomore year was when she would learn the game, develope a shot and become a force with her athleticism? She didn't. This summer Geno said (paraphrase) they were looking for a place to play her. I take that to mean she has yet to find a reliable shot that might suggest where she might play. Her lack of knowledge of the UConn offense has meant that while she's out there she slows down or stalls the offense. She drifts around the rim without recognition of where other players are headed, busting a play. For all of that she made a 6+ point contribution and a fair number of rebounds but at what cost.
Great kid, superb athlete, but no ball player.

Mir is the one I'm interested in. I think she could make major contributions this year. She's tall and strong...what do you think?

I don't think Dorka leaves. If Dorka can "star" next year at UConn with Amari as her "understudy" and make money off of NIL, this could very well be true. But is it the case that international players aren't eligible for NIL? That would be decisive, I would think.

Dorka is getting a free graduate degree. If she stays, maybe she will get 2 free graduate degrees. Plus, it probably depends on whether she is planning on playing for her National team, or making big bucks in the Euro League after UConn.

As for those idiot "fans" speculation, how insane is that? For years, TOB said we didn't have depth. Now we have depth and they speculate kids will leave. How sick is that? It's like not even waiting for Thanksgiving dinner to be served and already wanting to know what will be served on Christmas. Ingrates. Sheesh.
PS - these players are real people, not pawns for their amusement.
PPS - Sorry to hear Danny K may have health problems and relocated. Now THERE is a super fan.

I think Cuolmo mentioned yesterday that Juhasz has two years of eligibility and that she has said that she intends to stay for both years. As for DannyK he posted a couple of years ago that his mother had some health problems and that he would not be able to travel to games. I haven't seen him post on another site for a while.
Biting my tongue regarding the "idiot and insane fans" comment.

One one hand, the current culture involves a lot more transferring around, so it's not insane to wonder how things will play out.
On the other hand, the season hasn't even started yet. The assumption is that players will be unhappy if they don't get enough playing time. You all are going to yell at me for messing with the mojo or whatever, but in any given year, there are going to be teams that are absolutely ruined by injuries. We will still be very, very good this year even if we get bad luck. You never know what will happen or who will get a lot of minutes.

Danny K is fine, his mother is not. He took last year off from going to UConn games to care for his mother, and the same this year. I talked to him Saturday. He hasn't moved.
Sorry vtcwbuff, missed your post

I've bitten my tongue at some of your comments over the years. But if you feel I crossed the line, have at it. OK - My wife is a casual fan. Loves the games but doesn't follow the team much. Last night while waiting for the game to start we were discussing this years roster and I mentioned that UConn was stacked this year and that players would be fighting for playing time. She asked me if I thought any players would leave. I told her that it was possible since even the players at the end of the bench would start anywhere else. So I guess by extension that makes us "idiot fans" also.
Two things struck me about your post. First why such an over the top reaction over a private conversation that you weren't even a part of and don't you think that most fans speculate privately about transfers given the current situation?
My suggestion - enjoy the season and don't worry about "idiot fans" like us.

Well, I think we wouldn't be shocked if someone did transfer, but honestly I thought if anyone wanted to, Mir would have done that already. She knew who was coming in, and opted to stay during the year you could transfer without sitting out. Not sure if that option will continue in the future or if it was just part of last year only. Dorka has said that she wants to stay for both of her eligible years. She is ready to learn, so I don't see her leaving.
Let's enjoy the season. Go Huskies!!

If she does stay 2 years, like Evina, she will be a living legend in Storrs. Both have a kind of openness, joy, and gratitude for being at UConn that is deeply, deeply pleasing.

I never said "idiot fans", however I did call them "yahoos". Sometimes things just stick in my craw. Of course there is speculation due to the size of the roster and Geno's tendency in recent years to settle on a rotation of 7 players as the season winds down. I do think in large part that is because he has had to do so because of the lack of depth. I just found it disrespectful of them to start speculating that specific players would transfer. Specifically mentioning Mir, Piath, Saylor and Aubrey. For goodness sake, two of those players couldn't play yesterday due to injuries! Exactly why it bothered me so much, I don't know. It just did. Probably was an overreaction. I admit it.

It's a fine line between demonstrating our fandom and basketball expertise and yet expressing in a public forum opinions about young people. Even in the age of NIL and the portal, discussing which kids might be transferring can be misconstrued in so many ways. These are kids who go to a particular college. Let's allow them to feel as comfortable at that college as possible, unless or until they decide they'd be happier somewhere else.

To me , she should be working on guard skills. Ball handling, shooting, and passing, and putting pressure on the ball defensively. She is athletic and can jump, true. How is playing the frontcourt at her size helping " her personal " player development ?

Here is where you and I are at cross-purposes. I was commenting on people who criticize and speculate about players WHILE AT THE GAME. It's the first game of the season, people are already dishing about who's next and who's gone? In a place where they can be overheard by friends and families of those same players. Players who haven't even played a real game yet. You are talking to your wife in your house. Big difference. Years back, when we were able to finally get season tix for the first time (post TASK force), we were seated behind 4 people who came late and left early all season. The entire game, the husbands would complain about every player not named DT. Loudly. Particularly Maria Conlon (usually at a time she just sank a 3 and was looking pretty good to us). "Why were these girls even on the team, we'd never be any good because....blah, blah, blah". It was not a pleasant experience for us or the other people around us. And it went on all season. IMO, some people are not really basketball fans. Some people just want to hear themselves talk, and they don't care who they offend or annoy. The folks in question AT THE GAME, fill that slot for me. You are reacting to something other than what I was reacting to. Don't assume, like you did, that I was talking about "idiot fans" like you (your quote). I was reacting to Chappie's experience and you decided to apply a large blanket to my comments.

To me , she should be working on guard skills. Ball handling, shooting, and passing, and putting pressure on the ball defensively. She is athletic and can jump, true. How is playing the frontcourt at her size helping " her personal " player development ? Mir came in as a wing. Her skills are a better fit as a four/three as opposed to a three four. Last season, her best chance to get onto the floor was to play at the four, where options were more limited. [For proof note that Anna played mostly four when she was starting ... and having some troubles in that transition, and that Evina played a lot in the four late in the season. We think of Aaliyah as a perfect four (with good reason), but last season, she played mostly center. Probably because both she and Liv had frequent foul troubles.] Mir's effort, defense, and nose for the ball are great. Passing is also a strength. She is a very good finisher (especially on a break), too. This season, her ball handling and outside shooting are behind a logjam of candidates to play on the wing ... Paige, Evina, Azzi, Caroline, and a few more. Geno included her in the list of several players who split practice time between bigs and guards. So this season, her best access to minutes is likely to continue to be at the four. As far as development, she is practicing with some of the best players in WCBB. She is receiving input from the greatest coaching team in women's basketball history. She earned floor time in the exhibition game. We will see how much time she gets as the games get real, but there is a very real possibility that there will be a lot of opportunities in this season for resting the stars, opening up minutes for people who are deserving ... Mir, Saylor, Amari, Piath ... each quality players who live outside the central rotation ... which I believe will be ten players in varying allocations. If her basketball future moves on to the professional ranks, she will likely follow a path not unlike that of her idol, Gabby (though I don't expect to see McLean playing at center in big minutes for UCONN as was Williams). Meaning that Mir will need to make a mark in whatever role is available to achieve being "noticed", and that she will need to find and/or further develop skillsets that doesn't end up with her trying to defend Stewie, EDD, Asa Wilson, etc. in the W.
