Ashlynn has really come on strong the past year. I haven't seen a full game of tape. She's clearly very physical, confident, and ambitious. But that behind-the-back on the tape above shows she certainly is no Paige in ball handling (DD brilliantly described Paige's dribbling last fall as having the ball on a string). And 30% from 3 won't cut it for a shooting guard.
I didn't write this to knock her. I'm only saying that right now, going into her junior year I don't think she compares to Paige and Azzi in their jr years. But the trajectory is really impressive....

True, of course, but it is also unfair to compare ANY HS sophomore (I think when this video was shot, but the same would be true for a junior) to Paige. That's not Bueckers best skill, but she's very very good with the ball. |

I've yet to read one of these twits that disparages a player so I take what I read with a grain of salt but the comment that I liked was "her coachability and ability to tweak concepts in real time is fantastic" UConn's system teaches concepts and leaves tactics to the players. Past players who had it include Nurse, who despite being an AA will never be on a list of UConn all-time greats and yet showed that talent as a freshman. She would know what her options were before she got the ball. And when 3 or 4 of the players have it we get to witness those 5 or 6 one-touch passes where the ball never touches the floor and ends with a basket.
Shade simply looks like she would fit in well.

I've been reading Tenn boards for maybe 15 years and VN today is a paragon of truth and fairness compared to the Summit of 10-15 years ago. At least there are posters who come out and admit admiration for what Geno has done. Back in the day there was none of that. Anyone who questioned whether Geno was evil incarnate was bullied off the board. I remember when a post that referred to Geno as "that greasy little D*go" remained up for several days until I reported it to Maria C. She did remove it but defended her letting it stay up by telling me that "the LV fans need to vent". This is the same Maria C who was going to have a certain UConn fan we all love arrested on felony charges until a lawyer who was not her FBI sister explained that no laws were violated. In all honesty, when I read TOB I see many of the same POV's that The Summit had back then. Lots of arrogance and cavalier attitudes about the rest of wcbb. The difference is that UConn continues to field a dominant team. If and when that ends I fully expect TOB to get nasty. Very nasty. |

The idiots on Volnation are not nearly as bad as the posters on the Summit. Well, maybe Volfan09 is that bad.

Far fewer than when they first went pay though. They lost a lot of posters when a fringe element kind of took over the board. My favorite UConn hater was Tinyvol who was also a moderator. |
